Silence happens on a smaller more common scale as well. My uncle’s neighbor molested his children and my aunt would tell the other mothers when the neighbor was around to watch their children. It is time to hold the entertainment industry as a whole, which means not limited to movies/tv but also music etc, to the same criminal and civil prosecution the Catholic Church has faced. There is literally no difference. This has been going on since the industry began and is going on even right now. Individuals and corporations together are responsible including law firms that aided and abetted these crimes.
@ARTPAINTING1012 жыл бұрын
I am sorry but I think the catholic Church has barely been held accountable for the years of sexual abuse they covered up, and thereby tolerated by moving pedophiles from parish to parish. I think all groups and persons need to be prosecuted at a high level until it becomes clear that sexual advances made from a unequal power structure are morally reprehensible. There is no excuse for rape or pedophilia
@andrewhosfeld2 жыл бұрын
@@ARTPAINTING101 The entertainment industry gave the best picture award to the movie ‘Spotlight’ and in the acceptance speech for receiving the award talked about needing to bring justice to sex abuse of minors by the Catholic Church. This industry can literally state the rightful importance of prosecuting these egregious crimes while at the same time they are actively engaging in the same crimes. The abuses, exploitation and crimes committed by Bryan Singer and his ilk is in no way less worse than Weinstein nor the Catholic Church. Considering it was minors some would argue it is worse. It’s time the entertainment industry face at minimum the same criminal and civil prosecution. Politicians should also face the same justice considering Jeffrey Epstein. If government prosecutors prosecuted defrocked priests and clergy faced civil lawsuits, then so can actors, politicians etc. But considering not one abuser in the Maxwell case has actually been named, it’s extremely doubtful. The original argument wasn’t arguing that the Catholic Church was appropriately ‘held accountable’.

Cannot agree more with you. Hollywood is a hypocrite industry wherein self-interests, capitalism, among other issues are de rigoeur. Despite the proliferation of #MeToo movement and other trendy value-laden (eventually self-serving) advocacy (BLM, ALM, etc.), in the end money comes first, and values (if ever the business moguls think about it when thinking about the next project or "cultural product") are relegated to the minimum. Interestingly, "cancel culture" is a trend that is amplified by hypocrites.

I've had lots of money and I've had no money and I would take the no money and have peace of mind rather than have money with all the crap that goes a long with working with or near that guy. After 2017, when accusers were trying to negotiate the 'class action' settlement, the lawyer for her and her colleague wrote something suggesting that both of them were not sufficiently compensated back in the 90s... she and her colleague each got 125,000 GBP back in the 90s ... so looks like she wanted more money

He was at the pinnacle of showbiznezz. On top of the world. In his mind he could create and have anything he wanted. He was on a major power trip. Being large and in charge, literally. And that bled into all areas of his life. Talk about a false sense of entitlement, to feel that you can just take what you want, and that people won't stop you because you have the power. Well, look at him now, all frail and beaten down. My how the mighty have fallen. If only that would happen with the past president. They have similar personality traits. Jail the criminals.

Miramax did. I won't debate how hands-on or what the production breakdown was.. but "Like Water for Chocolate" and "Cinema Paradiso" were both early foreign films brought into the mainstream by Miramax. Guess you're one of his enabler, or one of those who turned blind eye. Or Made you were lucky not to have seen, or not to have noticed; any of his obnoxious, behaviours towards women. @@bvl98 how could I have been an "enabler" or "turn a blind eye" when I never saw anything, and there was never a complaint filed during my time there? Also, I do not know R. Kelly. Obviously I'm very familiar with his music. The closest I've ever gotten to R. Kelly was I was in the audience at a concert, he was in the lineup of. And I was quite far back. But I've never met him to know anything of what he's been accused of. However, a lot of women in the front row were literally throwing themselves at him.
