I just can't get over how good Sal is at interviewing. He seriously may be one of the best I've seen. His questions are well-researched, his delivery feels so natural and conversational, and his input is both relevant and fun. In a world of misinformation, speculation, and outrage media, I'm so glad that Sal and his group exists and I'm glad to have found them.

I remember Dan murell did talk about 1 thing the final deal had to cave on. Writers aren't allowed to strike alongside the actors while that strike is still going.
@Ginaippy2 Жыл бұрын
I used to work with Dan at Break back in the day! I'm not sure what he actually said, but we (the writers) are absolutely allowed to join SAG on their picket lines, and still are. Also, everyone has a right to refuse to cross a picket line. The WGA tried to get language in the contract saying writers who were currently working on shows couldn't be fired for not going back to said shows, but since solidarity strikes are technically illegal in the US, they didn't HAVE to agree to that. There are still a ton of writers on the SAG picket lines every day, but if a writer refuses to go in to work, they can be terminated by their employer.

In regards to TV, people were also sick of the absolutely rediculose, STUPID price! Along with the asanine package and tier structure! When streaming came out it was cheaper and didn't have that tier garbage. But now, not only is it more expensive, there is even MORE content separation BS!

I think one of the things that should have been talked about it is Force Majeure, the strike went long enough for the studios to make the cuts they wanted to make without having to pay as much in penalties. But I also think that writing needs to be gig job, these writers are contending with youtube now, the idea of a "system that worked" that was blown up by the tech industry is delusional. If streaming didn't happen, TV would be worse off. The internet ecosystem of entertainment is far larger than anything hollywood has. This isn't even to mention the video game industry, by far the most profitable entertainment industry.
@ltownvidz Жыл бұрын
Absolutely loved this video I really didn’t see many like this but I have to push back on cable a little bit, so many people were willing to cord cut for a reason, the only things that rates on cable tv are live sports now and they priced gouge people for years. Not saying streaming is way better cause they’re doing the same thing now. I can’t tell you I have the answer for how entertainment is delivered to us but imo there are a lot of problems with both models it’s just we had one of them for 70-80 years
@Ginaippy2 Жыл бұрын
It's not true that sports only rate on cable, although I'm not sure what metric you're using (I'm going by current Neilsen ratings and cable residual payments), and while I won't speak to the price cable charged, I will say that you may think there are a lot of problems with both models, but only one model is actively taking advantage of the creatives who make and star in the shows. People who created television used to be able to make a living off of it, and now they can't, due to streaming. Cable still makes billions a year in advertising and other deals.
@ltownvidz Жыл бұрын
You’re right I misspoke tons of people watch other things other than live sports ( I was also using Nielsen data that I could find but you’re in the industry so the info you have is probably more accurate than what I have access too). It’s just their numbers stood out. And I know you said you didn’t want to comment on cable price but that’s a huge part of it for consumers. With the lowest cable packages I have access to in my area starting at 55$ up, many of my peers and I just settle for one or two streaming services and share the ones you don’t personally subscribe to. Resulting in most people I know not even having cable. This is just my circle of course. But I can’t imagine that mindset hasn’t spread to a lot of other younger people. I’m glad you guys got your deal you all deserve that and more for what to do in terms of bringing our favorite characters and stories to life I guess I’m just saying I wish there was a solution for all parties involved but when dealing with corporate greed that can be an impossible ask

@@Ginaippy2 so how did a certain science fiction movie that has just been released in Australia get released in Australia if America doesn't have any working actor's? Did they do the screenwriting and acting before the strike and the editing and post-production and released during the strikes?

@@Ginaippy2 so how did The Creator get created?
@Ginaippy2 Жыл бұрын
Filming for The Creator wrapped in May 2022, well before any strikes had even started. After that, it was in post production, which has nothing to do with writers or actors. Movies take a long time to come out even after everything has been shot. Anything coming out now was wrapped a good while before the strikes.

This was great and informative but I have to say I'm one of those "why pays these more for terrible writing" namely whoever wrote She-Hulk, Loki, Obi, the likes of that crap. Why are Disney giving these writers jobs? It sucks these writers probably get paid a lot vs someone who writes something great a new for some indie film but gets F all for it.
@mitchellregan21 Жыл бұрын
While some shows do have bad writing, the new conditions aim to help all writers across the industry. Quality aside when people are hired to do a show and aren't being paid fairly for what the show makes the company it's not good. It's also not always easy to distinguish when a product's final quality is entirely the writer's fault. Sometimes they have control taken away from them or not as much input as they would like. I imagine a lot of the Disney shows hire writers they can easily overpower or rewrite if they so choose.
@Ginaippy2 Жыл бұрын
Everyone has different tastes when it comes to TV, and bad and good are subjective in anything creative. Writers do not, in fact, get paid that much, especially on shorter run shows like the ones you mentioned, and there are many many many people involved in a show and what makes it to air, not just the writers. Assuming a writer is not talented because they worked on a certain show is an inaccurate assessment of what is actually going on.
