When my daughter was young, she entered paintings and drawings in an art show with intent to sell. Nothing sold. She was distraught and almost gave up art. I sat her down and told her: If you do art for yourself, do whatever you want. But if you do art with intent to sell, you have to do what 'they' want. The years that followed, she did more art that catered to the public and practically sold out every show. The first rule in marketing is KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. All Hollywood cares about now is having whites and straights as a minority in their movies. Too bad that alienates around 70% of the population that buys movie tickets. Well played.

During WWII, the government commissioned many studios in Hollywood to create propaganda for war time efforts. Hollywood had only been in the big studio business for at most 20 years at this point. Hate to educate Americans on their own history, but Hollywood has pretty much ALWAYS been a propaganda machine for industry, government, and activism. I'd say it was during the late 70s through the 80s that there was a lull in this behavior, hence why there was an explosion in more explorative film making. While the 20s to the early 70s, tended to adhere strictly in very specific genres and - to the credit of whiny liberals - leaned heavy on the "white hero complex" narrative. I'd say Hollywood went from being motivated by one propaganda to another. We are just on the other side of the pendulum swing. Hopefully we can get back to the "do whatever you want" period like in the 80s.

@@isaiahgoodley6188that's exactly why the Lord of the Rings film was popular. It didn't deviate too far from the books, but changed it enough to be a different thing. Rings of Power took the book. Changed everything, and pretty much altered a character's personality and origins which affects the overall lore and whole Tolkien storytelling. Rings of Power isn't a Tolkien story, it was a modern story using Tolkien's characters. And that's why fans didn't like it. And for other people, they just didn't like the show.
@h.a.9880
@h.a.9880 2 ай бұрын
@@nolilado5452 The funny thing is, this isn't even true. Rings of Power covers parts of the lore that are mainly explained in the Silmarillion, but Amazon only owns the rights to the Hobbit and LOTR books (and appendices). So at best, they only have very vague and very brief blips of lore to work with from the source material that they actually own the rights to. If Amazon had made a show that fits the actual lore of the Silmarillion/Tolkien World, they'd be in violation of the Silmarillion's copyright. In other words, the very moment they set out to make this show, they never were able to "take the book" and make something based on it, they were always required to fuck up the plot. Of course, fucking up the plot by shoving modern idiotic sentiments and fads into it, picking the most obnoxious tropes and boring clichés of modern """entertainment""" and topping it all off with hilariously bad writing and horrifyingly unlikeable characters made it all the worse.

I think obviously there is a large divide between the audience and people who work on these things. I am sure the people that work in media have a deeper appreciation of the place things are coming from and the individual performance of artists and actors, compared to us who judge nothing but the finished product and measure it up to the giants we've seen before. I am on the side of "fuck Hollywood" and "it's all trash these days", but just saying, the people who are involved in working on this type of stuff have a much different appreciation and much different, lets say, priorities, from a viewer, and I can see why they may be flabbergasted by the general publics uncaring perception of things. It is largely the producers who greenlight this stuff and from get-go it's sloppy garbage, but let's be fair, we have been happily consuming sloppy garbage for a decade, so it must be jarring to suddenly have a lot of missing appreciation for the actors and directors who try to make it work.

After Endgame, Marvel should've collapsed their roster down to five or six heroes again, and started building a cinematic universe from the start for each. Instead they just kept inflating the balloon until it popped. Should've let some air out, man. Imagine if they'd wrapped it up and just kept: 1. Spider-Man in New York, battling Kingpin. 2. Doctor Strange travelling the Multiverse, battling Kang. 3. Rocket having space adventures, doing the weird and wacky shit. 4. Sam & Bucky doing spy stuff. Then you give each of these concepts the whole treatment all over again, starting from the beginning. With Spider-Man you introduce all the street-level heroes and villains and maybe reconstruct the Defenders against a pyramid of villains with Kingpin at the top. Doctor Strange gives you the opportunity to do What If...? But live-action - introduce Captain Carter, Skrull Coulson, King Killmonger, etc. Then with Rocket, you rebuild the Guardians with new characters just like they did at the end of GOTG 3, and finally just do Secret Invasion with Sam, Bucky, and Fury. Basically take the air from the balloon that's about to burst and split it between four other balloons.

@@Mattfreeman89I agree with this. I’m fine with them making movies about basically any character. All characters in comics have SOME epic moments and storylines to draw inspiration from. The issue is pushing an agenda and altering characters, their powers, backstories (which I’m FINE with if the writing is at least good, some things can be changed), and then doing a piss poor job at writing a script on top of that. To me, the reason marvel movies are doing poorly is the above reasons combined with seemingly a sacrifice in individual movie quality under the assumption people will still have the same interest and engagement towards the entire franchise. The infinity saga drew so many popular characters onto the screen, the post credit scenes didn’t take 6-7 movies to become relevant again, the individual movies (while I do maintain a lot of them aren’t very good) were just better than what they’ve been releasing. They’ve just given up, is how it ultimately feels.

What you described is literally a crime. Sending hate towards people and being vitriolic towards them is literally harassment. So to use a crime to obfuscate and act as though critics share some blame in a bad film is absurd. If I crash my car, it's not the manufacturers fault. It's mine. Let's say there's a manufacturing error that causes the crash, if I happen to be drunk then I'm still responsible not the manufacturer. Same here, it's not the reviewers fault that the film is bad. It's the reviewers fault if they intentionally send hate towards people and only for that. Them being a harassing dick doesn't magically make them share in the responsibility of the film being bad. Genuinely sit down and consider your argument and apply that logic to other situations and you might realize how absurd that position is.

Durin IV and Elrond had some prominent storylines and they weren't involved in the action but were pretty high ranking in their races while trying to settle a dispute between their factions while becoming closer friends. Though the series could of been better honestly. Like the pacing was quite slow and they didn't engage the audience enough or tie all of these storylines together well enough but I wouldn't say it was bad necessarily.

It dosen't help that the super hero genre is extremly saturated and almost every movie feels the same, they on top of that release garbage movies. The genre needs to expand and brake the mold, that's why Joker, Batman, Logan are success and hilghly rated, because altough they are still "comic book movies" that is not their whole identity. Joker is a self-contained story about a disturbed loner, Batman is a noir detective mistery ala Seven, Logan is a road-movie western about a fallen hero. These are all wildly unique stories withing the Super hero genre that iis why they are hits, every Marvel movie feels so similar at this point that people are just tired of it.

the only mcu stories and heroes i'm still invested in rn are TH's Spiderman & Shang-chi. Spiderman cuz after no way home we finally completed the prologue to spidey's story, where he's now a friendly neighborhood spiderman who struggles to juggle his work, finances, social life, & relationships with his heroism. So i hope to see more mature & grounded spidey stories since i've gotten very fond of Tom Holland's iteration of the character. Shang-chi i'm mildly invested in cuz the movie was decent, and i want to see more martial arts action in the MCU. Shang-chi i feel kinda underdelivered the martial arts aspects and i want to see more of it. Then there's Deadpool 3 finally joining the MCU. Not sure what to expect cuz i love the deadpool 1&2 movies, but unsure how they'll tackle his entry into the mcu.

Because being good at acting is the same thing as being good at lying. It's essentially the same skill. In these cases I think it's often more a film production company thing than an actor thing though. They're making films to make money from the plebs, and not to make something that's actually good. A great movie starts with an idea that would make a great movie, not "ok now we need to come up with something to make more money, we need to release another movie next year". It's completely backwards. The story just ends up being generic, soulless crap with plastic-looking props and half-assed acting. And when it flops and the audience doesn't like it, they get angry because they don't get returns on their "investment" and try to find scapegoats.

@JK-jw3po no the change started before endgame. It started with black panther and then captain Marvel, which was when Disney started their ESG push into marvel, however the change started even prior to that with star wars. That was their "the future is female" or rather the "force is female" motto started to appear, and it simply went into their other IPs. Although many people will try to gaslight and say those films weren't woke, the first massive backlash and advertising for Marvel films being woke happened then. That was also the first real great fall in the quality of Marvel films. If you've heard about it, there was preferential treatment being given out for investments for projects that adopted ESG principles. This is why many companies have been adopting woke ideology because investment managers are prioritizing giving money to companies like the current Disney, or at least they were. I don't know how much longer they can do that if these investments don't see any actual returns. Is suspect that the investments managers would be opening themselves up to anti-trust laws, seeing as the investments they are making is infact now purposefully losing the money for 401Ks across america. I've also been hearing that the ESG dollars have been drying up, especially in Japan (since I'm more concerned about anime and gaming at the moment), but I don't know how true that is.
