Smokey nailed it; what the song is about. There's a danger in the strides we're making as an evolving and advancing civilization. The theme of this album- 'Impera' -is about the rise and fall of empires. I mean, obviously, right? Anyhoo, this track comes during the point of the story that Impera is telling where the people are distracted looking for a savior to come down from above, disregarding the threat of the human tyrant coming into power behind them. It's why the songs ends with a fade out: We're still looking for that savior, but our faith in finding him is gradually eroding and fading over the long march of time.

This song makes me think of the nazi’s and the occult
@Britton_Thompson10 ай бұрын
@@gabrial_109 Tobias confessed Russia was the basis for his present day "evil empire" he had in mind when writing Impera. Go figure- a Swede who despises their historical enemy, Russia?! Who'd a thunk it? 😉😁 But there's definitely an occult element to consider or else he wouldn't have chosen the infamous Aleister Crowley pose for Papa Emeritus to be holding on the cover
@DonHaka10 ай бұрын
@@Britton_Thompson This idea of Swedes who hate Russia because Imperial Russia was our rival long ago doesn't really translate into any modern day ways of thinking. I don't think any modern day Swede holds such beliefs, except for maybe the hardline monarchists.

About a thousand years ago dark age of around 2010 or so I befriended Tobias Forge when he was on Myspace calling himself a nameless ghoul and basically handling all the promotion for the earliest incarnation of ghosts. They had as yet to come to the United States to perform. But it was in the works and they were going to come to San Francisco for their first series of shows. But unfortunately something happened I may have to cancel them. The very interesting thing to me and the reason I bring this up just because when it was clear that the shows are not going to happen, the first thing the band and I assume Tobias himself have come up with an alternative that would involve like a pre-recorded show or something that could be shown or streamed in the clubs in place of them cuz he was very disappointed that they were going to be it will play but he also wanted to deliver something to make it up to people. To this day the band and Tobias are all about inherent power of video and they're still using it very effectively although with much bigger budgets. But those ideas for video where the band almost before the band itself I think if any of the conversation about promotion that I had with conveyor or any indication.

Ghost gets too much hate for literally no reason
@Docstantinople8 ай бұрын
@@Onyxthefembecause they’re part of a long lasting trend that European bands follow started by Abba. Just putting out catchy beats and lyrics that don’t mean anything because they know Americans will eat it and they’ll go mainstream in the USA where the big money is. Ghost tries a little too hard with all the demonic crap and makeup and clothes they wear. They’re not about that life. Maneskin is another example of one of these bands.

"Depth in Satan's Eyes" does nothing for me though it fits the album's flow, and two of their covers bring nothing new but were done well (It's a Sin and Missionary Man). ...And that's as close to disliking anything from them I get.
@absea791810 ай бұрын
Ghost may use to auto-tune in studio, not sure, but I've seen them live twice, and you can look at dozens of live performances of them - they are an extremely tight band that has amazing vocals. They have a large band 7-8 Ghouls to support Papa, including two female Goulettes to help with the vocal harmonies. Tobias is old-school, he expects his band to do it real.

I catch Hell from a lot of other metalheads because I like Ghost . And I don't give a f*ck ! They put out some great stuff . I like what I like . That whole "gatekeeper" mentality is getting old .
@Britton_Thompson10 ай бұрын
It's what is killing the genre. It's so sad they don't see that. It drives me absolutely crazy when they try to besmirch bands by saying they "sold out." Have they had their heads buried in the sand for the last 30 years?! Rock/metal hasn't had a legit, mainstream breakout album that held the Billboard #1 spot for more than one week since Nirvana's 'Nevermind' in 1991. That was the last time- 32 years ago! Rock and metal lost it's mainstream popularity when the fun and sex was removed from it during the Grunge movement. If you go back and look at the biggest bands from the 1960s-80s- Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, etc. -their songs were mostly about fun and sex. Rock and metal surrendered fun and sex to pop and hip hop, and it just so happens that about that same time, pop and hip hop replaced rock as the #1 musical genre in American pop culture. The gatekeeping purists deserve absolutely zero credence from rock fans because *they're the group most responsible for killing rock n roll!* It was already hard enough for rock and metal bands to breakout because the record labels realized it's safer, cheaper, and more financially rewarding to champion the solo artists (which is what pop and hip hop is) where hired gun producers can whip up a generic background beat on a keyboard faster and cheaper than the time it takes for a group of 4 or 5 musicians to create- and then mutually agree on whether or not they even like it -as well as not being acts who come to a grinding halt the moment one band member leaves or the 4 or 5 guys can no longer get along. I mean, rock and metal already has the deck stacked against it to start with based on the cheaper overhead costs and higher probability for profit in pop and hip hop in the labels' eyes, and now we have all these toxic gatekeepers giving the competition even more ammunition to shoot us with! The rock & metal purists have killed the greatest American musical genre of all time by now.

I'm not a great singer sitting around recording demos and ideas, but when I'm onstage I'm a goddess with the voice to match. Anyway, Tobias is really pissy about doing everything live except the songs that use a church choir, and he doesn't pretend to sing when he's not.
