I really wish they made a single-column in that size. I love their layout on their single-column “personal size”, but that compact size has always been my favorite.
@joe19405 ай бұрын
For me a full size Bible is what you leave on your desk ( big study Bible etc), a personal sized is what you bring to church and a compact fits in a coat pocket or a glove box. (I've never read the CSB, but I like the color of that cover.)
@justindeharlingen5 ай бұрын
Thanks! All the comparisons are really helpful to get an idea on what it's like. It's definitely too compact for me to invest handcrafted level money into, but perhaps a future handcrafted large print personal size will be a winner and make a nice second fiddle to my CSB Pastor's single column.

I agree on the compact size. Beautiful Bible. However, Lockman truly scored on their LPC with trim and font size.

I had the genuine leather personal size, and I gave it away. But I really like full-size bibles now. That personal size was the perfect size for evangelism. However, carrying around full-size bibles, no one can miss that you have a bible with you. I'm glad the CSB doesn't have references. Its a text bible for sharing the gospel, not deep personal study. Thanks for the review, brother.

Tim, I have the Wide Margin Burgundy Calfskin and the cover wrinkles really bad when slightly bent. At first it didn't bother me, but now I'm starting to think it's a defect with some bibles. (Not just Holman). Perhaps the cover is delaminating from the inner liner and air bubbles are trapped within?? Just speculation. Curious on your thoughts. Love your videos!

Calfskins are a bit odd. Even some of the Schuylers do that. It could also just be cheaper materials. Hard to say. For the price hard to complain.

Honestly, I kind of like that wonky silver gilding. I think I like silver gilding on the pages more then the gold. My dream Bible would be black synthetic leather, with purple under silver art gilding, and a purple leather paste down liner, and two ribbons- one black and one purple. (I love the black/purple/silver color scheme)

Yes, my old eyes can’t read that small font; which is a shame because this little Holman CSB looks wonderful.
@caomhan845 ай бұрын
Bible Serif is a terrible font at smaller sizes. The letters are too tall and thin (Because they are designed to be squeezed into narrow columns), and no matter what Tim says in the video, it's never printed boldly at sizes smaller than 9.5. It frustrates me that my RSV from 1962 is imminently more readable than this...and it's the exact same size in terms of footprint. They could have made this a little thicker, with just a touch more font size, and it would have been absolutely perfect. It's such a beautiful little Bible. But the interior should be redesigned.

For me the CSB large print Compact is much easier to read than the personal size. I have both, and I can't read the personal sized. The type is too bold and crowded. The Large Print Compact has 8pt type, wide margins, good line spacing. It's one of my favorites. Just my 2 cents. Not a "nickel's worth" 😉☺️

Okay, now that I've had this for 2 days, I have to say this is the most frustrating Bible I own. Why? Because it could have been a perfect 10. I like so much about it. It's not heavy, the cover is lovely, it's semi-yapp, the paper is opaque and easy to turn, It sits well in the hand. I love the silver gilding. Holman could've had a "PSQ-slayer" with this, considering that it's literally half the price of the PSQ. The problem is the font. All they needed to do was make it a tad bigger. It is so frustrating when you go to the New testament and read the bolded quotes of the Old testament, and it's so much easier to read. And you ask yourself "Why isn't the rest of the Bible like this?" Increase the font size just a bit. Put a little bit of more space between the lines. It increases the thickness of the Bible just a bit. Probably an quarter of an inch.... But you have something that literally could have been one of the best Bibles available on the premium market in terms of overall readability and portability. It's so nearlyyyyyyy there. It reminds me of the Cambridge Cameo, but the Cameo is easier to read with zero eye strain. Sigh...ah well. It's Good for what it is...my personal gripes with Bible Serif font aside. It just could have been *perfect*

I'm not sure I understand why they produced this given that they already have the large print compact, which has a larger font size and could have been part of the Handcrafter collection. That would have been a home run.
