Holme Level Crossing

Wednesday October 3 2018 at 17.02. A late running train from London and the 15.12 Hull to London (17.47) train. Both had plenty of passengers. This is the East Coast Mail Line just north of where three tracks become two. The crossing was filmed from the other side in 2012 when one light wasn’t working. Since then new barriers and new lights have been installed. The signal box replaced a traditional looking box in 1975 but it has been unused for 20 years. Control gear is supposed to be housed in the brick part underneath but it seems far too large just for that. Unlike normal signal boxes the whole thing is big enough to be rented out to a railway enthusiast to live in. Occasionally Network Rail say they want to replace the crossing with a bridge but there is no money for that. 293 trains a day are supposed to use this crossing, 46 more than use the next crossing along the line.

Lack of any great deal of dampening on the two barriers this side. The crossing is looking a bit worse for wear if I’m honest.
