I'd say you're spot on here. Been into RC since the 80's, sponsored racer late 80's into the 90's with my first crawler in the late 90's ( modded Clodbuster), and this is one of the most enjoyable RCs I've owned. Got mine a couple of weeks back and am having a blast! It's amazing what our RCs can do these days, and straight out of the box to boot. It's nice to see the interest and all the new drivers totally into my favorite hobby. Keep up the good work!

Refreshing to see a review from someone with so much experience in the field, and even 3 years later, gives a good comprehensive understanding of what we can expect from this model. Am looking at moving from a heavily modified SCX10 to one of these, and your review quite honestly, has won me over and given me an idea of what I need to upgrade, and what's merely a want, rather than a need. Appreciate you taking the time for the review mate, look forward to using more of your products in the future.

Thanks for the feedback! When we got back into RC in 2001 we started with airplanes and gliders. Then we built a crawler from scratch and it got super hooked. There is a lot of transfer between the two parts of the hobby, especially in the electronics world.

Hey John, great video and great rig! You’re mentioning at around 10:45 that a 540 motor will “burn out real fast” in the Bomber/Wraith. I’ve just ordered one of your 13T CrawlMaster Expert 540 motor for my RTR Bomber as it is recommended on your website and will be considering one for my Wraith down the track, they will be running with the stock AE-5 and AE-2 ESC’s. I know that the 13T Crawlmaster is rated closer to a 27T but it is still a 540 motor nonetheless just as the stock 35T that is in my Bomber at the moment, and I’m under the impression that a 35t will not burn out as fast as a 27t would. Should I go for a Traxxas 21T 550 motor for the Bomber and put the 13T Crawlmaster into my lighter scx10 or will it be fine in the Bomber? Cheers
@HolmesHobbies7 жыл бұрын
It is the stock gearing and tire size that makes the wraith a 540 killer. Go to 14/84 pinion/spur gearing and it should be just fine.
@waffleattacks7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know, I''ll do that in the Wraith. Does the gearing also need to be changed in the Bomber? If so what size pinion/spur does it need? I believe it's 12/64 in stock. Thanks in advance.
@wolfbanger21247 жыл бұрын
i noticed you said the 550 can is about perfect for this RC, well i swapped my motor out to the Tekin 45t HD motor. Do you think that motor will "burn" up? Should i go back to stock or go brushless?
@HolmesHobbies7 жыл бұрын
Limit your time in 2nd gear and don't do hill climbing.
@wolfbanger21247 жыл бұрын
well it's gonna be my c1 or c2 rig so the hill climbing is a must. I think i have just put the stock motor back in. Speaking of motor im not a big fan of the way Traxxas has you tighten the pinion. Theres a shield over the spur so you cant really "eye" your pinion mesh. Do you agree or have an easier way? Thanks and as always great and informative video.
@robertrosson48707 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your review of the new rig. my question is will they have it in a kit form in the future or will it be just the rtr version on the market, I myself like building Im sure there are alot of us that would like ti see a kit form brought to the market also

Traxxas will probably not offer a kit, they just make RTR vehicles at this point.

I just started getting back into rc cars and crawlers look fun to me, i was just wondering what your would recommend for a newbie. Ive looked at every crawler between $200-500 and im just not sure if having a 2 speed transmission would be worth the price but its sounds cool to be able to have 2 gears and locking/unlocking differentials. I almost bought the trx-4 sport then i started looking at the $500 models. Was even looking at cheap crawlers on banggoods for $200.
@HolmesHobbies4 жыл бұрын
Its fun to have the two speed. The sport is more solid though, due to less things that can break. My 7 year old has a sport, its been super solid
@christiand67687 жыл бұрын
How does this one stand up to the axial sxc 10 II kit version? I will go for the sxc10 II kit version just because it is a kit version. Even if this is better. However, if this one was offered as a kit version I think I would go for this one. Thing is, I want to put the thing toghether with my kid, that is going to be half of the fun.
@HolmesHobbies7 жыл бұрын
The transmission has less slop at the wheels. The links have less play. But the TRX4 is more complicated and heavier. Both are great vehicles though, so if you want a kit then the SCX10ii is your best bet.

A year on and we can safely say that the added bonus of remote locking diffs and 2 speed is not a weak point as these things are getting bashed on 6s now and nothing is really breaking the only fail points are user problems with lack of general maintenance letting cables bind up and not taking the effort to adjust servo end points.. i get what traxxas is doing with the trx4 sport but that has taken alot away from what this original is about

I love this video, great info, and very in depth. Only thing I must say, please please please get a different camera person. The shots are very close most of the time and need to be backed up alittle. Also, the exposure (I think that's the word? Haven't used a camera in awhile) was alittle low since the footage was pretty dark. Other than that, great video!
