Here's what I did with my TRX-4 Sport Bowhouse skid Traxxas wheelbase stretch rear links SSD outer portal covers Moved rear shocks forward and mounted them to the frame 12 tooth pinion 45 tooth spur Overdrive front gears Underdrive rear gears Flipped bumper mounts and ditched the bumpers Ditched the rock sliders Method beadlocks in 2.2" (don't remember the brand) Rc4wd Interco Iroks in the soft sticky compound at 5.75" tall A ton of trimming to clear everything. Set the preload all the way down in the rear, and just high enough in the front to keep it level and allow full travel. Lots more coming too, need to do some electronics and who knows what else lol Now off to watch the rest of the videos on your build. Love the format of your videos, keep up the good work.

They're a decent truck, I bought the sport kit version and added the following: 45t 540 brushed motor (using stock pinion), 60amp esc, 16kg servo, and run it on 2S. It also has some steel white weller split rim wheels (which I've weighted). Also succumbed to adding some brass to the inner sides of the front hubs, and I went with using the stock setup / oil for the shocks. It climbs really well, very smooth too. Was a pleasure to build!

Thats how i built my sport. The only brass i have are wheel hexes. Bowhouse lcg skid and lcg battery tray are great. The stock shocks are great for the mini T spring mod for more droop. If you want to keep the stock bumpers swapping the rear and front mounts and flipping them gives better clearance. Its a great free mod.

nice video bud. my trx4 sport is still my favorite after 2 years of owning it. i bought the 2 speed kit for like 80 bucks and ran a hobby wing 1080 and a dewalt motor i pulled out of my own 12volt impact gun. it was tough as nails, but recently i dropped 200 bucks on a hobbywing axe with 2100kv and i'll never go back. over the years ive removed the sliders all together and put a smaller battery box in and i float it between in the front or just over top of the transmission and ive never competed but it will go just about anywhere and ive never broken anything except for multiple bodies and 3 sets of tires.i dont do any brass at all because i like it on the light side. but the secret for me is the ever dependable 2 speed so i can bash a little too.good luck with whatever you decide to do but ive got the element the gen8 v2 a couple budget rbc crawlers so im not a fanboy but hands down just for everyday beating on it bouncing it off ledges and jumps the trx4 platform is the best ive seen or had. of course you need new electronics but thats every rtr rig.a good steering servo and decent electronics and itll last for years.im even running 7.4 volts to the same little shift servo that came with the shift kit for almost 2 years and its still hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit. but its just my opinion and no i dont compete but i use my rc's everyday. thanks for sharing brother. i look forward to seeing where you go with it

I've had mine for almost a year. Only ran during the summer, though. But I ran it hard, and other than rust on the links where I got some rock rash, and some rust on the screw heads, I'm very happy with it. Mine is bone stock, and I plan on keeping it that way. Very capable for what it is. And most importantly, very fun. I run 3s batteries in mine, but would probably go with 2s if I had to buy batteries again. Can't wait for summer when I can get back out on the trails! Edit: I did buy the traxxas winch to mount on it. Just haven't had a chance to do so yet. That is the only upgrade I plan on doing to it.

The best free mods: 1)Bumper mount swap, winch and bull bar delete, trim body, drill new holes and move front bumper into body as far as possible. Do the same with rear body and bumper. Delete hitch. 2)Rock sliders, trim body, add washers and longer screws to get sliders higher. 3) Remove tires and notch foam. 4) Use a smaller battery and relocate over front wheels. 5) Trim tread on tires for more grip. The best money I spent was hobbywing esc, new remote, and overdrive/underdrive

Raise the sliders and back bumper. You might need to cut the body to make it fit. Use front battery tray and remove heavy plastics old tray. 8mm Hex nuts. 35kg servo. Brass only on front axle if you need. HobbyWing Fusion as its much lighter and makes a world in difference in control. Overdrive. Either use pen spring mod or rubber bands around your shocks. Do the common tire mod by removing these small center lugs. And finally if you are really crazy get a LCG chassis like SCATTERGUN V2 or Negative G...but i haven't tried out these myself.

I still haven’t gotten the overdrive gears for my Trx4’s but it would probably be one of the best upgrades. I upgraded the esc to have a lot better modulation and drag brake to a HW 1080 and love it with the stock motor. Other than that servo I upgraded the servo because it definitely needed more torque, it worked wonderfully. And last the bumpers needed more clearance so I flipped the mounts as a free mod.
@carmexchacon3 жыл бұрын
The overdrive gears are pretty decent. I just installed them this past weekend. The front tires will want to grip more and basically drag the rear wheels up before the rears grip and want to flip it backwards. And descending since the rear wheels don't turn as fast it almost acts as another drag brake. Well worth the investment.

@michaelavery44273 жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure everyone adding low brass weight is mainly due to the light plastic wheels, heavy big bodies besides the sport unless its equipped w sport rack. I bought the sport kit and axial umg10 kit to use unimog body but most of it is still in the box. Mainly because the electronics I purchase get gobbled up by my trx6. The trx4 tires I use on my axe gen8 and I actually like them. Solder flux wrapped around wheels and I cut mine the opposite of what I see on utube. The tires are directional so I leave the leading center tread on and snip off the trailng center tread which is kinda of a pain in the ass so I get why it's unpopular to do. The body is nice to run once u fix the approach angle w a different bumper. Coincidentally the unimog bumper with a little trimming on the edges fit the TR4 sport body perfectly but that's the only thing I know for the bumper wise. I also use a concealed winch w that bumper. Looking forward to see what u do. This might motivate me to get rolling on the kit build since I'm at a stale mate w my 4ws Capra rtr. Thx for all the great videos and unrivaled explanations and tips. I just wish we had similar environments(NEast KS 4 me). Lol especially since winter is around the corner.

Check out my channel for mods on the TRX-4 Sport. I am also not into just adding brass. Initial upgrades/mods would be bumper/bumper mount mods to help with approach and departure angle. Also look into inner fender which will allow you to mount a shorty battery at the front, ditch the current battery tray (save weight), and allow you to mount shocks inwards. The only brass I added was outer portal cover and with those changes, I was able to get to 60/40 weight distribution.

TRX-4 Sport doesn't come with front battery tray. He needs to pick up the inner fender in order to get that tray. For $20, it's definitely well worth of upgrade as it allows you to remove the standard battery tray (saving weight), and use the front battery tray to give a bit more front weight bias, and also it has different mounting points for shocks. I found i had to raise up my rocksliders and trim the body, i found my sport was lacking breakover clearance because of them.

I love watching you make the trucks do amazing things/lines. Keep it up! (oh, and send some of that awesome terrain to Denmark, we have no such thing and I'm envious) ;)

Hey Logan, Traxxas has put out some very nice rigs over the years. My TRX4 sport was also rtr and I love it. There are lots of mods you can do without spending money, and they are all over youtube. Bumpers off is a good one. You will increase your angles there by a lot. I took the battery tray right out and relocated the radio gear and battery on the side pods. I run smaller batteries as most guys do so fitting a battery there is easy. Check out the TRX4 vids on the RcCrawler Vlogs youtube site. He does some crazy lines with his. One of his videos shows his setup. Of course you have lots of wheels and tires so that would be an easy mod. I think you will be very surprised at how much the free mods will improve performance. I'm keen to see just what you do. Cheers !!

Not performance related but I definitely would get the 2 axle off road trailer made for the TRX to haul my scx24 around.

Bead lock wheels running 1.9 super swampers with wheel weights upgrade the servo and move the battery or just run a smaller battery and done 😉
