I sure appreciate the additional info. I recently bought a handful of gently used servos off Marketplace, which included a couple of your SHV500v3 as well as two Reefs units. Having stabbed one of each into a couple of my crawlers, I'm learning the differences in how and why they do what they do. Always nice to hear from the "head honcho" about a product! And, holy cow, these things are impressive. I had no idea! As an aside, my only complaint about 25T spline counts (or 23T for that matter) is that because of the odd number of splines, the mounting orientation of the servo will dictate whether the servo horn rests nice and centered in the neutral position, or not. Sometimes, link lengths or physical barriers will dictate that a servo can only be mounted one way or the other- leading to the neutral position being off center. Granted, that's why we have subtrim adjustment on our radio gear, but it kinda bugs me all the same. I guess I'm a little OCD about that or something. Regardless... Thank you!

When I tuned in I didn't have any questions about servos. But like so many areas of the rc industry, I simply didn't know that I didn't know. Nor what questions to ask. Thank you, John, for explaining & breaking down a servo's function into dissectible slices. I can really sink my teeth into these types of videos and I just learned a BUNCH more info that, without which, I would have continued ignoring high-dollar servos. I do have one question: A few of my 2nd-hand servos have the word 'Life' printed on them. Why?

A lot of videos out there talking about servos and almost none of them talk about the internal potentiometers. Is there any info on the position feedback electronics? Could they use hall effect sensors or encoders? Potentiometers have a limited number of cycles.

Lot's of info. Thank you. I'm building a "yakimaran" and am thinking about using a servo to steer (I'm already using a Quikrun 880 for speed control) so I would end up with a remote control boat that My wife and I can ride in. The motor is a trolling motor with the head lopped off so I can easily put an arm on it. Can you recommend a servo for this. I'm using a 4S LiFePo for my power source if it matters.

Just a quick question, how about solenoids or linear actuators? I've been curious about controlling the dig function with something along that line. It seems the logics for selecting A or B would be easier to create in a small package if you didn't need anything in-between. I've seen things like that used in animatronics. Very cool stuff you do, I'm currently waiting patiently for a speed controller for my new 2200 revolver. Its going in a 5 pound portal low cg crawler. Loving your SVH650 on 3S. It pushes the rocks to the side, and opens up it's own path. Hah. Hope you and yours are happy. Be well and have fun.

Now I’ve been wondering, with that wiring configuration typically ground is shared with the servo signal coming off the RX as well as the negative off the battery. So ground is a Y funneling into the servo. With signal wire only coming from the RX and hot wire only coming from the battery. I’m wiring my TF2 to run a separate battery for lighting on a class 0 rig. And I wanted to run my shv500 direct power off off the main but the winch I was hoping to power from the light battery. If I pull signal only from RX and two wire positive/negative off the secondary battery would that cause it to glitch like you had some servos do? I wouldn’t want to splice the negative from two separate batteries to feed this because that could go wrong as electrons try to return to source. So it’s either skip that, run a larger primary battery and power both servos off the main with a smaller battery to power the lights only and risk the servos essentially having a brown out if I use mixing or skip mixing and just keep it simple and use one at a time. What would you do?
@rc71782 жыл бұрын
I wrestled with this issue for a little bit before coming to the conclusion to just run everything off of one battery. If you wire it right it can be super simple and elegant and you only have to worry about one voltage source
@andrewdecavia75532 жыл бұрын
@@rc7178 I did decide to do that on my TF2. So I ordered the Powershift deadman switch and their pelican light switch box so I can do that and control power draw of the lights, easily turn them off and make sure everything is de-energized as well when not running. Oh, also got their wielder volt meter so I can monitor cell voltage while driving and can work that into the theme. So deadman switch is the propane tank. A friend is printing me a generator and I’ll have the three connected so it’ll be like a ranch truck going around repairing fence. That’s my TF2 and the GSpeed V3 I’m building will be a flatbed ranch truck with a bale of hay and other things related in the back. TF2 has the 1080 and Crawlmaster while the V3 has the purple servo, purple motor and hoping to get the purple esc. Very excited, hoping to get a second purple servo when they release to go in the tf2 or a second build.

Installed the lp 500 and i don't notice a difference between a 2s and 3s lipo. I am running direct power with your jst adapter xt60 bridge plug. I have a hobbywing fusion 1800kv motor/esc. Are there any ESC becs that you feel safe using? i understand that any that offer tend to only offer up to 7.4v, but figured Id ask anyway. ive taken on the hobby by jumping in with both feet, and amassing 7 1/10s in a little over a year that I am replacing, and upgrading, almost all at 1 time. I certainly crave a handful of HH and Reefs servos, but will have to take on 1 at a time, especially since I'll need to get some batteries for them as well. These Amazon specials (25 &35kg) were fine, but aren't cutting the mustard, and 1 just cooked while the rig was sitting still. Lucky I didn't lose my Fusion....
