I love Simply Chaotic, but that's the only polish I'd buy from this collection and I can't justify spending $15 (plus shipping) on one polish that has a potentially short shelf life. But as always I appreciate your swatches and comments. Watching them change color as your were painting was very cool.

You might want to check out KBShimmer's Branching OUt. It's a pretty close dupe, but a bit cheaper than Holo Taco. And from my experience with other KBShimmer thermals, the thermal effect should last a few years.

Oh man I've never seen anyone's swatches transform color SO quick before! That was so trippy to see. I bought a surprising amount of these polishes, I got Rage Bait, Deeply Superficial and Simply Chaotic. I don't usually get blues and teals since I really am into the warm end of the color wheel, but SC really just caught me, especially the cold color. I was really disappointed to see the purple shimmer in Rage Bait though. It could be I am biased with my warm color opinions, but I feel like HT simply can't give me a warm color without trying to make it cool toned in some way 😅 I hope my thermals don't die in transit, however once they arrive I think they'll be fine, it has been very mild here the few last days, but I feel for people living in more hot climates, especially in places where your packages will be left outside, that's so nerve wrecking.

Thanks so much for all of the comparisons!! Two thoughts. It's interesting that Rage Bait was a little strange for you. It was also strange for Kelli Marissa, but in a different way (hard to get it opaque in the warm state; she also runs cold, I think, opposite of you). 2nd, people keep saying that the fridge will help. Has there been a robust study?? It seems to me that putting them in a fridge would end up locking them in their cold state eventually. Unless they're able to recover from fridge to room temperature many times without consequences to their changing abilities, that is, if that option is more beneficial than keeping them at room temperature as much as possible.

of course! and oh yeah i saw that, i do wonder how finicky doing a 3rd coat would be 🤔 but i didn’t notice my Rage Bait being any thicker than the others. i’ve only seen a few comments saying people have kept their thermals in the fridge, with only one comment mentioning someone on twitter has been doing it for 7 years and they still transition like normal. so nothing robust from brands at least lol i had those same thoughts too, but i guess it depends how cold the fridge is? and maybe it also really depends on how much of a temperature change happens when you take them out of the fridge, some people keep their homes cold lol 😅

I really want these! 🥺 i have SO much polish that i really need to throttle back. The summer time thermal thing kinda makes me nervous bc i've heard they die in the hot temps. I really wanted to get these, I got as far as the afterpay screen, but HT is has gone from$18 to $20 CAD from Jan 2024 to now and it's just so much money when I'm getting nice polishes from ILNP and KB Shimmer for $5 less. A $20 polish really has to blow me out of the water (Inside Job was the last HT I bought) for me to get it.

I think I am in the minority in that Funny Feeling is my fave, although I like all of the colors. I appreciate how the colors work surprisingly well as a skittle, and they give me very nostalgic 90s vibes. But I’m passing on this collection for a number of reasons. I will take color inspiration for pairing colors for accent nails and gradients though!

It was really hot here in FL too but the only one that was significantly slower to shift was Guilty Pleasure. My theory is that these differences in temp sensitivity has to do with the actual manufacturing rather than them dying in the heat (or not totally dying, but getting to a less shifty place)

i wondered about that too! i did read on reddit the other day that apparently some thermal pigments are less sensitive than others, like all thermals will transition when dunking in ice water but not all will transition with body temperature apparently? but its strange it seems to be different polishes for people that are slower lol that makes me think it could be heat ‘damage’ 🤔

@@PolishedYogi I swatched it on one finger over my current mani which is growing out. That sort of almost counts as wearing it! It's "Cortana" by Chameleon from this past April's PPU. I have a bit less than a quarter of an inch of free edge, but it is so warm here in LA that it's always in the warm state. I did rub an ice cube on it, and it does transition. I also realize that I picked up the Crystal Knockout polish that has the little hearts in it from rewind 🙈 so I'll have 2 soon enough. Do you think you'll do a fave thermal video at any point? (maybe in the fall/winter lol)

The concept and colors are super cute and well done. They really did well with the theme because the colors really do bring to mind like those moodrings when I was a kid, and they have more colors than my moodrings ever did 😂 With that said I do find the decision to release this in summer…..interesting too. @@PolishedYogi it’s hard to say. It’s so hot where I am that I haven’t been able to get any of the polishes other than funny feeling to sustain the cold state for more than a few seconds. I used an ice pack to get my tips to transition and they seemed pretty responsive, but I haven’t tried getting the whole nail to transition.

I probably won’t get any of these since thermal is my least favourite finish. I have to keep short nails for work, and not able to see the colour gradient on my nails is a big drawback for me.

i have potential advice for anyone worried about using thermal polishes within the short lifetime! i spoke to someone on twitter recently who said she’s kept some bottles in her refrigerator and they’re still reactive as of 7 years since she initially put them in! i’ve heard people say this before but it’s always been a rumor, like a “i heard that this might help, but i don’t know” and no one seemed to have any evidence of it working for them! but that person on twitter gave me hope😁 ALSO if you’re worried about what color the polish will settle into once the pigment stops working, i believe its normally whatever color you see in the bottle in your environment (i think this is normally the cold color) so maybe like enjoy the cool effect while you can, but make sure you like the cold color! (but tbh i always make sure id be okay with either color) hopefully this helps anyone who really wants these or other thermal polishes but the shelf life has been holding them back! PS i heard fancy gloss has really good thermals and they typically have very good shelf lives without the fridge! i only have one from ppu from her, but it was super fun to wear. okay ill stop yapping now lol

I’ve heard Fancy Gloss has great thermals too, they’re always recommended! I’ve seen a few comments also mentioning keeping their thermals in the fridge, I’m glad it worked for that person on Twitter lol. I figured keeping them in the cold could also shock/kill them? But yes the best advice I think is to make sure you love all the transition colors so you’re not as bummed when it eventually dies 😅

It is really nice to polish on a someone not trying to sell them lol I definitely set up a big girl budget a couple months ago in anticipation of the fifth anniversary collection. I am really excited for this collection it’s my first thermals, but I’m definitely gonna watch that package like a hawk. I am an avid beachgoer and just all around water baby, so I’m excited to see how these change and move throughout the summer. I think these will be really cool for nail art and doing, a squiggles and lines and dots. I definitely want to try them on my toes since they’re always a little bit colder than the rest of my body anyway. Let’s see how long these last!

Deeply Superficial is definitely the prettiest color combo imo, and the flakies make it very very pretty & interesting. The ones without flakies seem dull & boring to me, I think the others would be way better with flakies!

I have the hardest time investing in thermals because they just don't last very long! Stefanie, what do you do with your thermals? I leave them together in my storage area so I look at them first so I can use them first before they go bad! What are your thoughts on the value of purchasing thermals? Are you afraid they'll lose their color-changeyness before you can wear them all enough to make it worth it???

I totally understand! unfortunately since my collection is so large & i do nail content full time, i don’t have the same time that i used to to just wear what i want. and when i do have time, thermals are usually lower if not last on my list to reach for 😅 so for me personally, i don’t go out of my way to buy thermals since i likely won’t use them enough, especially since i’m a seasonal wearer lol i do think they’re worth buying if you either have a smaller collection, or you actively plan to keep using them! i think most thermals can last at least a year or two if stored in a dark drawer and you don’t have extreme temp changes inside. i know some people with shorter nails also don’t like thermals since theres even less of a gradient effect, and it only really shows when they wash their hands for example. so that could be something else to consider, similar to how some people dont like reflective glitters or holographics since they only/usually look good in specific lighting conditions. i hope that helps!!

the cirques that have died on me were stuck in the warm color, but i’ve heard from people they’ve had thermals die in the middle or even the cold state lol so as long as you really like both colors and whatever in between shades it transitions to, you should be safe 😅

i knoww they’re definitely so cool but just risky if you have a bigger collection i think. like you have to actively re wear these to make sure you’re getting the most use out of them (similar to neons in a way before they fade). aw yeah it depends when you bought your cirque thermals, the one that died for me was Rothko Red!

It definitely sounds like yours got damaged in the heat. They shouldn’t be that slow to transition when they’re new. (Source: my collection of way too many thermals.)

thats kind of what i thought! but it was strange since looking back on the footage of Rage Bait, you fan clearly see how the polish on the stem/brush is that deeper pink but it applies peach. do you think it means they’ll just die sooner than the others?

@@PolishedYogi I think they might, yea, all of mine have gradually gotten slower and stopped reaching the extreme ends of their shift. One PPU tri-thermal I bought arrived having lost one of the shades, it wouldn’t transition to its warmest color, and it stopped transitioning completely after a month or two. Thermals are fickle beasts but I love them!

Given the short shelf life of thermal polishes, does this mean that the stickers and the box will stop transitioning too? If so, what shade will they settle on as their permanent color?

hmm i think the stickers & box would last a lot longer since its a different material? i’m not quite sure, but i do remember Cristine saying to maybe not put the stickers on something that would face extreme temp changes, like lets say a water bottle that you bring outside. i would guess the colors would stay in the “cold” state though
