Eliahu Pietruszka escaped from Poland at the beginning of the second world war thinking his entire family had perished. But two weeks ago he discovered that a younger brother had also survived and that his brother's son, 66-year-old Alexandre, was flying from Russia to see him.

The reunion was made possible by a comprehensive online database of victims created by Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Given the dwindling number of survivors and their advanced ages, the event seemed likely to be among the last of its kind

Scrolled down looking for a comment along these lines. You can tell he's projecting his own fears through that message to his nephew. It seems like he was lonely for a long time and that scared him deeply, so he's very, very happy to know that his nephew won't have to go through the same thing. Must have bottled up those feelings for...well, most of a lifetime.

Can you imagine, finding out at 102 that your little brother who you thought died long ago along with the entire rest of yor family, survived! Married and had children and you still have family that isn't your direct descendants. Wow. What a thing to go to the afterlife with, a gift of priceless value. I think this guy will go in peace when he is finally ready.

When the uncle marveled how much his nephew looked like his father it must have been so emotional for him because he never got to see his brother in old age as he thought he had died young. He remembered his brother as he looked back then, so to see his nephew as a grown man it must have felt like seeing how his brother would have looked later in life. An incredible experience I’m so glad they both got to experience and thankful we are able to witness it.

When he says “you won’t be alone” you can see the pain in his eyes. After all his loneliness, his first thought is not for himself, but for his family. It’s not “I won’t be alone”, but “You won’t be alone”. He feels empathetic and protective; he doesn’t want anyone else to feel the sadness he has felt. A small detail that marks a wonderful human being.

Maya W. (EDITED) did you even watch the video? the older man says "you look just like your father" meaning thats not his son, thats his nephew. his mom was probably pregnant with him just before his dad went off to war, had him during his service, and his uncle by the sounds of it didnt even know his brother was going to be a dad. as if his brother died before he got to tell him type thing. so this is huge news to him to find out his brother ended up having a kid and that kid lived a whole life with a family of his own. EDIT: i clearly know what i said happened in the video. maya w edited their comment so it would look that way. they stated before that this was father and son, when really its uncle and nephew .

It was the “you won’t be alone!” that absolutely broke me. You can hear both the personal pain and relief in this poor man’s voice. He’s so selfless that he’s immediately happy that his nephew won’t have to experience the kind of crushing loneliness he once felt.

He’s now 106, meaning he was born in either 1915 or 1916. Truly one of the worst times to be born, during the First World War. He probably also had to go through the Polish-Soviet war and next, the worst one, World War II. I hope this man lives the rest of his life happily, he truly did not deserve to suffer like this.
