The Eyewitness to History video library was created to enable audiences everywhere to hear firsthand testimony from Holocaust survivors. This video was created from a live digital program, First Person: Conversations with Holocaust Survivors, recorded on October 6, 2021. It featured Esther Starobin, who was two years old when her parents sent her out of their German hometown to an uncertain life in England. She was rescued as part of the Kindertransport, an organized effort on behalf of Jewish children that took place between 1938 and 1940. Esther spent the next eight years with a foster family, largely unaware what was happening to her parents and brother who had remained in Germany.

I loved learning Esther’s story. I agree with her perception, in that personal stories are important to hear! I find them incredibly helpful in understanding more about the affects on those who had to bear witness! Once again, thank you, for bringing these incredible testimonies to us!

Thank you for sharing this story. It's sad that the family had to be separated. God bless her mother and father for the strength to do what was best for their daughters.

I clearly remember watching Esther's story. She was such a pretty little girl. In the face of rising anti semitism I think it is important to keep reminding people of the dangers of singling out an ethnic or religious group as a target. ❤️

I can remember listening to Esther’s story before. Very moving. How sad for such a little girl. At least your bigger sisters can remember them, I don’t know if that would be a blessing or a curse. Can we take a moment to think about how very , very brave these parents were. What a decision a parent had to make. So hard to say aren’t you lucky to have sisters and photos. I look at my photos all the time. Fancy not having any at all! I can’t imagine it. Oh, G-D bless her parents for having the strength to do it. I’m nit sure but perhaps too many children had been sent from one family. Perhaps they were giving another family a chance at saving a child. I don’t know but it sounds sensible. Towards the end it was getting frantic to save the children. The family that took her in as well sounded very kind people as well. Thank you ma’am for sharing your story with us. Bless all of you 🙏🙏🙏🙏👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
