Many years ago I saw Bon Iver play this on SNL, having never heard Holocene before. The recording moved me so much. Everthing about it - composition, instrumentation, vocal arrangement, lyrics, atmospherics. I was humbled by the composition. I could not hear it enough times at reference levels in my studio to satisfy my fascination with this remarkable imagination. Then I discovered this, your interpretation of it. I actually wept at the staggering beauty of your voice, vocal harmony, guitar playing and your expressive emotion captured in this recording. I absolutely adore you - offering this bared-souled, deep expression, of your talent. Thank you for sharing your gift.

this song brings back memories. i wish i could go back to those days. it makes me tear up just thinking about my childhood. not appreciating my life back then, knowing now that i’ve lost everything and how i would give anything to relive the past. i can see my dad driving me to the grocery store over the weekend, playing this song in the car. i stare out of the window, not knowing what i have going for me in the future. i lost my old house. i lost my best friend(my cat, not a human. idgaf about most people...) i lost my childhood, i lost my happiness.

One of the biggest issues, if not the key issue I find with young artists playing covers of bands like Bon Iver, is that of all their talent, they seem to miss the larger picture. Justin Vernon's songs are more than just a soft words and imagery. Walker, I believe you have the piece of the puzzle almost everyone else misses. I could tell you could actually feel the meaning of the words, instead of just singing them. That's the whole reason Justin has an audience. We listen to music for how it makes us feel. This performance captured that perfectly.
