Rowlet definently seems to be the popular choice among the girls. Considering it’s who I picked too, I can only say that it shows how good their taste in Pokemon are, Ina especially

I too choose Rowlet because it's cute and owls are cool. Also, Rowlet does seem to be the most well rounded of the starters. You get a flying and grass type move to start off with and when it evolves it learns fighting type moves. Rowlet essentially becomes the wild card for your team who covers you in three areas.
