Most of the EN girls have had opportunities to interact with their JP senpais to one extent or another, and get to know them over time so that they see them as friends and coworkers rather than as idols to look up to, but they still have an aura of awe around Suisei. This and Calli's little interview on Suisei's channel recently really demonstrate the amount of respect they all have towards each other.

Bae and Iyris are basically native level Japanese. Fuwamoco are either native level or close to it. Ina and Calli seems to be functionally fluent (although I don't know if either of them would agree). And there are a lot of EN members of varying skill levels. Kiara actually IS fluent, just not native. The EN members, by and large, seem to know a lot more Japanese than the JP members know English, probably because, let's face it, most anime fans are weebs. To most of the EN members, Suisui is like a rock star. I'm glad she got on well with them and they weren't too star struck.

I really, REALLY want to see a singing collab between Suisei and Nerissa. I'm not sure how fluent Rissa is in Japanese, but that much vocal power in one singing stream would be amazing.

@@wumpusrat nerissa knows next to no japanese, but she also said she's down to sing in japanese if invited to. so it really depends on whether suisei or anyone else wants to sing with her.

@@wumpusrat Nerissa knows a bunch of kanji but that's pretty much it. She can manage to translate songs with help but speaking is a different story. Quite common difference in skillsets among people who self study to be honest.

AFAIK some HoloEN do have Japanese proficiency language certification which means their JP communication is enough that they can legally apply for work in any company in Japan even as a foreigner. N1-N5 (N1 being the highest that some Japanese natives even fail) *Bae* has N1 *FuwaMoco* both have N2 *Kiara* has N2 a few years back but not sure if she took an N1 exam

So at the very least of the first 3 EN gens we have almost 50% of the members being absolutely fluent in Japanese with Calli, Ina, Wawa, Irys, Bae, FuwaMoco. And then Kronii, who I genuinely can’t tell if fluent or not. Or if she’s like me who understands our grandparents native language but has little to no confidence in speaking it with strangers.

When I went to Japan,several years ago, one of the group used to speak to the Japanese locals by physical emoticons. She literally acted out each word as though she were playing a game. As embarrassing as that was, she didn’t stop doing it for the entire month we were there.

Ah, out of everyone there, and just counting since her official transfer to Hololive. ...Yeah, she's only been in Hololive slightly longer than HoloSTARS 2nd Gen, and is newer than even Hololive 3rd Gen. Miko was tranferred less than a year earlier. I don't know who all was present, though.

Amongst all hololive members, i think Suisei is the most popular and her songs branch past hololive. Marine is probably the 2nd most popular so understandable shes like a celebrity to EN. I mean Calli melts when talking about Suisei, and id argue Calli is the best overall musician in EN and top 5 in holo.

The two components aren't separated into "to kasa" but rather "toka sa", where "toka" is used for lists and "sa" is an interjection used to show you're thinking about what to say without being silent. Subaru uses "sa" a lot for example, sometimes after every word, whenever she's explaining or recalling something. It can be understood in a similar way to other particles like "ne" which are also used to fill the dead air that can happen during conversation, or in English with words like "right" or "you know" or "like" and so on.

it's not broken up like that; it's "toka" (which is a sort of franken-particle alternative for "to" that implies that the list of things you're listing is not necessarily an exhaustive list; it's got vaguer connotations than "to" on its own), and "sa" (which is a filler particle like "ne"), all of which adds up to a super laid-back conversational tone rather than something formal

It's "Bae toka saa, IRyS toka saa...". The grammar "X toka, Y toka, Z toka" means "(such as) X, Y, and Z" or "(things like) X, Y, and Z". The "saa" part in this case is a filler word that expresses uncertainty or hesitation, so it's kind of like she's saying "(People like) Bae and uh... Irys and uh... Ina..."

Moona, Korone and Kobo were also in the concert, although I admit I've not heard any mention of them getting up to any activities in New York with the others, so its possible their sections were pre-recorded or done from Japan. Could just be that Suisei was the only one physically able to travel there at the time or that she just wanted to go for the fun of it.

It's for the MC parts. Those are live in realtime. Suisei was an MC during day 1. I forgot if Korone was MC in either days. Kobo and Moona didn't have any twitter post that indicates they're in NY for the concert, so no doubt their parts are prerecorded. Again, this concert is a mix of live real-time performance and prerecorded ones.

... Why is it whenever holo jp members mention EN members that are good at Japanese they never mention Kiara? She was literally the first member of EN that was noticeably fluent in Japanese. She's able to have full, complex conversations with JP members. What does she have to do to get recognition?

They probably just didn't speak with each other much. While Bae, Ina and Calli hanged around Suisei a lot more as big Hoshiyomis (while IRyS hanged around with Bae and therefore would be in the same group with Suisei). Kiara instead mentioned that she had hung out with Ame (as well as staying longer at New York together with her compared to other girls). Not like Suisei has encylopedic knowledge of the level of Japanese knowledge all EN members have so would only mention those she talked more with or had a particularly memorable moment with rather than an objective list of all the top Japanese speakers in HoloEN.

​@Dangitbobby-KFP_Shaman you have to take into account that kiara's skill in japanese is not at the same level as 4 years ago when she was still living in japan. She has stayed in austria for the majority of her career, german and english are more familiar to her because she interacts with most people in these languages, meanwhile speaking jp only arises during collabs and announcements which doesn't happen frequently. Unlike other members like irys, calli, and bae who lives in japan and is exposed to the language everyday. Kiara still communicatese in jp well but even she recognizes her skill has deteriorated, she stutters and hesitates more.
