And being male + anime doesn't hold that much compared to being an anime girl. We already have male vtubers that do fanservice, male vtubers that just being bro, but none of them are even close to the success of irl streamers.

@@domi8499 that's the point my friend told me too. but to me, it's all the more reason that i believe the winning formula is just not there yet. I believe that when vtubers started, it's always anime girls doing cute things right? but there's range of how far you can get there. despite saturated with it. people always just went to girls doing cute things. male being fanservice might be succesful but to me that's just the taste, because luxiem didnt last it for so long. i feel like the way luxiem does it is like a small window rather than the formula and people that follow the window frame but not the actual picture falls flat because to me its more like none understood what it is. For all we know, it could be brotubing or fanservice but failed in execution, or maybe just be a whole new thing.. personally i think there's more likely on what ingredient will make the male vtubing work.

For a new face to become popular these days is to have a completely untapped market which I don't know if they even exist anymore. It's just that being an anime dude isn't giving you enough levarage to fully tap into new markets, or for Luxiem case, holding onto said that market. For Chronoir, I don't know much about them but someone told me that their fanbases are quite similar to an irl streamer's one.

That is if the 2 branch managements even communicate with each other, which I don't think to be the case here. Each branch are quite insular from each other and unless something big happens that includes both branches, they will try to coordinate. Unplan is something that the talents cooked up themselves, not something that the company invested in so I don't think the JP side had communicated with the EN side for their announcement and vice versa.

While some of the JP boys didn't stream talk about it, some did tweet openly a little and expressed their thoughts. When I saw Rikka's stream, I had the exact same sentiment. There's just no fricken way the company wasn't aware of unplan which literally has been in the works for months from the involved members who put in their own time and money after convincing management to allow them to do it. Not only did this turn into a slap in the face but it felt like a huge disrespect. No one, members or fans, is happy how the so called timing and news of everything came out management's end. Also, I'm not blaming Magni or Vesper. As I said elsewhere, if both felt that Holostars could no longer feel like it can make them can go further then who is to stop them from departing. Joining Holostars means coming in with a strong heart and having a will to overcome adversity you'll face. They provided great content during their 1 year journey.

also something i appreciate is how close the jp and en holostars and the starmin/tempura have become. the camaraderie is great. there isn't a sense of senpais vs kouhais or en vs jp, it's just all holostars together.

The overlap with Unplan feels really weird especially with quite a few suggesting that the graduation announcement was delayed so much to not overlap the bad news with the debuts of Advent and other events on the girls side, but then it to overlap with the one big Holostars thing from the month.

The thing that struck me most is Astel voicing that he had wanted to see the four HQ boys have their 3D lives. He voiced out what many of us were mourning the lost of that future. And it's somehow comforting to hear it from one of the boys. Especially because, at least at this point in time, we *could* only hear it from Astel/a JP star...who is still apart of it but not as close to the situation as the remaining tempus boys. I really really feel for Shien and Rikka...it felt sad that this happened on a big day for them...plus they were worried about the fans. And it was indeed tough. I personally still tried and was there for the unplan premiere but like they said with the mess of feelings, it was hard to fully absorb the song until I relistened to it later once I was a little less shaken by the news. @@akira8393 unplan is the new unit within Holostars JP consisting of Miyabi, Rikka, Shien & Aruran. They officially announced it and then released an excellent original song called superior stars on Rikka's channel (which you should totally check out). It's relevant here because they announced the unit with the song release time. Then the graduation announcements dropped I think an hour or two later. And then the original song released also an hour or two after the statement. Which is why Shien was talking about wishing he could've moved it and Rikka questioning the timing, it defs seems like it was too late to do anything by the time it dropped as everything was prepared already.

It makes me so mad & upset they had to announce it on the same day, esp. Shien having to apologise when it wasn’t even their fault absolutely broke me. I love Magni & Vesper, and was really shocked & saddened when their graduation notice dropped but they were as good as graduated on that day, so there was really no reason for them to announce it on the same day. The fact that the rest only knew about it around the same time we did as well… We were all so excited for Unplan, and they had put in so much time & effort into it, then this happened. Management really messed up big time & hurt a lot of people, I’m glad Rikka spoke up about it so genuinely & seriously. Man, it's really heartwarming and bittersweet hearing this months later. But you can tell how much the Holostars JP and EN love one another. thank you for the translation, hopefully with me and others watching it all the way through it'll throw it towards the en-only fans since I think my channel might be one of those that gets labelled as "watchers of this thing watch this" since I tend to interact a fair bit (idk how the algorithm works but this is my best idea of it from a watcher POV). I don't usually watch Astel (fps just isnt my thing and I always miss when he's live) but I always appreciate how he goes out of his way to comfort and celebrate others, and his overwhelming passion for Holostars. I'm glad Shien and Rikka touched upon the whole timing with unplan and the statement being released. It seems from a fan's POV that Cover has the idea that the StarsJP fanbase and the StarsEN fanbase are mostly separate, but for us kaigai who fell in love with StarsJP and somehow have a large enough presence to justify an EN branch, it was kind of odd seeing both a really cool announcement (the first official sub unit in the 9-person Holostars group! tangent: why are corporate entities like this and use the same name for two different designations of a group, its confusing to everyone) and a really sad announcement drop at basically the same time. I only ever watch EN clips. So this is definitely reaching the EN fans, little by little. I imagined some JP Stars would talk about it, but I wasn't going to be able to understand what they said. It's nice to know they tried their best, even if they couldn't change the timing of the announcements. Thank you so much for the translation! I'm still mad that they gave the 2 announcement in the same day thus i'm feel sorry for the unplan members. This is actually not the first time management handle things with bad timing. And it's not just that, there's also rust event that's happening in 2 days later(cmmiw) and people were wandering whether it's should be postponed or perhaps it'll not have many people compared to the first season. That's why i'm really glad the EN members joined the event and even fans who i thought would be less active were cheering and make rust trending almost every day. The events were successful thanks to all members and fans. And to the rest of TEMPUS, who were struggling to stay calm during some of their initial streams after that. They’re so resilient. I was so shocked by the news of magni/vesper graduation that day, I was one of the people that actually couldn’t listen or be there for unplan’s superior stars premiere 😭 I only managed to listen to it a day or two after and it’s so good. Having unplan hype up this announcement with their unit and song for a month was exciting but to be completely “overshadowed” by the graduation announcement on the same day was so disappointing and such a bad move by management… Holostars as a branch will always have 24 members to me ✨

Until the sudden hiatus+graduation annoucement.... But I was glad Rust season 2 was a thing and that's how they built wonderful memories, until one day they decide to part ways. For a bit, I thought that maybe I was cursed. See, I originally got into VTubers by watchint Kizuna A.I., and she went into basically permanent hiatus; then, while I was aware of Gura, I didn't get into Hololive until Sana streamed Metroid Dread and I joined her fandom... only for her to graduate the following July. TEMPUS, specifically Vesper, really helped to lighten the burden of seeing the best cinnamon roll say good-bye, but then only a year later he leaves as well. Surely you can understand my logic, as stupid as it is - I'm aware that I have no power to affect events as such. It's kinda crazy, the things our brains do to try and put the pieces of a puzzle together... the whole situation felt like a jumbled mess, and I know I wasn't the only one feeling that way. Still, as Astel said, it was a mutual understanding between management and Magni and Vesper, so I have to have faith that everything is fine. I definitely feel bad for Shien and the others, who clearly had their own plans that got kinda scuffed by the graduation announcement. And that's to say nothing of Altare, Axel, and the Vanguard, who were hurt the most by all of this... still, I know they can overcome this, and it helps that both Magni and Vesper seem to be doing fine on their own, so nothing doing but to move forward.

As someone who got into Holostars through JP, thank you for the translation. I've been watching Randon and feeling a bit better, but when Shien said he'd always consider Vesper and Magni part of Holostars, I teared up a bit. It sucks that both he and Rikka felt like they had to address the overlap with unplan. Cover hired a lot of good people. A LOT of good people. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, and I'm sure it's complicated, but it's reassuring to hear that Rio feels supported, and I hope that's the case for most of the talent and that it stays that way. The boys (JP and EN both) all constantly show a strong layer of maturity, capability, and thoughtfulness underneath all the goofiness time and time again. I hope the company appreciates them as much as I do. Here's to the past of Holostars and the future. (And if that future happened to include even a tiny cameo from Kira, Vesper, or Magni, I would be over the moon.)

All that time could've been use to announce the graduation and let it happen in a much healthier way, like Sana. They didn't reach an agreement even a week, a couple days before the anniversary? A lot of questions unanswered, even for their coworkers... Even so, I'll support them and the boys in the future. Appreciate the translations. Outside of the small announcement video we got from the Tempus boys, it felt like pretty much everybody else ignored that this happened and it was really discouraging. Nice to hear at least some of the JP boys talk about it.

Yeah, they didn't ignore it. They're just trying to move on. Most of JP has been through 3 of their members leaving, and know what it did to them and how to best deal with it, both for themselves and for viewers. Holostars Rust starting very soon after the graduation announcement was perfect, because it allowed JP and EN to interact easily in a way they wouldn't otherwise. They were able to keep each other less lonely in Magni and Vesper's absence, as well as liven up Holostars in what would otherwise be a dark time.

When Kaoru left, both Shien and Oga weren't able to talk about him for a while - not because they couldn't, but because it was too painful. They needed a while to process those feelings and express them in a way that wasn't venting or words they would regret from feeling too emotional. For the girls? Who knows? Most of them don't even talk to Tempus, so it's a bit weird to say anything about people you don't know. For the ones that do, it's even weirder since they have no idea why they left and Magni and Vesper probably didn't even talk to them. So it's like, did those boys care enough to say goodbye? What are they supposed to even feel, and how can they express that in a way that won't start drama with the fanbase? So it's better to mostly stay quiet and just move on, perhaps.

with regards to what astel said, I dont think it had anything to do with numbers. I honestly think that magni and vesper were only interested in streaming and werent too interested in the idol side of being in holo. in one of his final streams, vesper did sound rather overworked and he said that the thing he enjoyed the most was streaming with his community and the other offline work was obligatory. not to mention the restrictions and what not. Being a corpo idol vtuber just didnt fit their main goals.

Basically, he wants them to regret when they see everyone having fun in Holostars, and to regret they didn't stick through the hard times to be part of what everyone had built.

I know I might sound harsh but, assuming that your guess is correct, I would say they should have known what kind of group that they join beforehand. It’s clear as water that they can’t behave unhinged like other vtubers bc it’s an idol agency… I’m sure there were a bunch of other attendees who wanted to become one of Holosters, it’s just…shame

Magni's said previously that the reason he joined HoloStars was for the music and idol side of it. He'd wanted to become a musician and expand on his creativity for a long time, so that was his motivation. He knew was he was getting into on that front, so at least for Magni, I don't think it was anything to do with that.

I didn't follow Magni much. But I got the sense that Vesper didn't like the corporate restrictions of agency V-Tubing. So I'm guessing he either negotiated for more creative freedom or just didn't bother renewing his contract.

@@seta_souji He vibes most closely with Calli, on the girls' side of things, if that's any indication of his personality. And he repeatedly says that he likes riding the line of acceptability and raided Nina Kosaka, knowing it'd piss off her antis. His first suspension was losing his temper with management. (And I liked both, so imagine my disappointment.) So I think he was legitimately star struck by Hololive as a brand at first, because it really is a dream job for a lot of independents, but actually being there wasn't a good fit for him. Now that I write my thoughts out, I already sensed why I wouldn't make a good V-Tuber either. Being a streamer was never a dream, but at least I have a more concrete idea why. You really have to be a cuddly bunny to be an "idol" or basically be an ice cold professional entertainer like K-Pop stars. And I know my tribe. Vesper is neither. He is a sour wage cage knight that is angry at life and is too authentic to not show that anger. We don't want to be cute (or cool). We want to be angry. We want to be utter goons rolling down the hill in a shopping cart at 30 mph. That's usually more the province of traditional streamers and creators, like tyler1 or dunkey. Vesper just happens to fall on the weebier side of that. Much as I like watching the girls basically throw pajama parties with each other, that whole thing was the reason I didn't think I'd like V-tubers.

Well... Magni didn't seem to like certain things same with Vesper and during negotiations, things fell apart. I feel a major factor in Vesper leaving was the whole anxiety medicine mess in Japan; seems things were scheduled in a way he didn't have enough time to get them cleared.

@@ved2360Eh, you can be your authentic self in Holostars. You just need to have self-control, or know when to step back. Look at Astel - guy's crazy, and constantly challenging and pushing against management to try new things. Look at Flay - getting permissions for games you would think impossible. The thing is, you gotta love the place you are and know how to deal with the parts you don't love in order to be successful, and Magni and Vesper just didn't seem to have the personalities, persistence, or professionalism to deal with the overcautiousness of management in order to get what they want.

@@heerotomoe I think in Magni's case he honestly probably just realized that he's infinitely more successful as the Professor (better numbers, 800k subs, more revenue, etc). I've no doubt they loved the boys and their communities, but realistically, why take a pay cut to stick to a gig that's not nearly as successful (Magni), or that doesn't let you fully express yourself the way you want to (Vesper)? Sidenote: For anyone curious, both Bettel and Bettel 2 now appear on Magni's Twitch streams since the moving arc, so he's still in contact with Tempus via that link.

I am someone that was converted from watching only the girls, to watching all of them, Live and Stars. At the time, I don't like the idea of watching Stars not because I'm a gachikoi of some sort, but because it felt "gayish" (sorry for the lack of term). Rikka, Magni, and Vesper (along with the rest of the Tempus bois) changed my mind. Rikka back when he and Calli collabed with Spiral Tones, I thought "hey, this guy's a good singer. Maybe it isn't so bad". Then Tempus came and opened the flood gates for me, now I'm watching both Live and Stars whichever I can. Sometimes I wanna simp to the girls, sometimes I wanna chill with the bros. I really do hope that one day Star will become bigger, so big that it breaks down the walls.

its sad to see them go, but it just seems like Magni and Vesper decided that there aspirations didn't fit well within the company. I think they disliked the restrictions put upon them and found it best to fly solo. You can still find them easy online doing there regular old shenanigans.

I hope people don't blame Magni and Vesper for this... I'm certain even they didn't know when their departure would be announced. The timing of the announcement was awful with the timing. Yes, their graduation was unfortunate, but the timing.... so I don't blame Shien and Rikka for bringing it up. It really is unfortunate for everyone, both Holostars and the fans.

the JP gives us more context than the Tempus will. I know that they cant say everything but just give enough context would be fine enough and it's nice to see that JP holostars are able to give us more context. It's selfish to think that i wish they could at least stay a lot longer but it's enough to understand ves and mag why they leave and it was not because of hololive or things like that. Things just wasnt what they thought and passion things like that can go so far. Like many have said, the holostars is not really big yet in comparison with hololive. cover really did throw everything they had but the market just never worked out yet. I do hope if the talents can come back, vesper and magni will be back as well as other talents like sana. a wishful thinking but i want it to be something positive for a change.

The Holostars growth has stagnated over the past year or so. Holostars JP and EN concurrent viewership numbers barely increased and with Hololive production's creativity parameters... It's difficult to generate exciting content ideas without getting declined by upper management.

Based on what we know from the announcement, it's graduation by agreement of both parties, and not termination by Cover alone.

It wasn't a termination. Possibly problems with wanting to renew the contract. Contractual issuels perhaps. I've seen people guessing that the long hiatus has something to do with negotiating.

That what happens when you are too ambitious. Why would you argue about your contract when they’re just relatively new gen? Their co-workers didn’t even complain about their contracts, even the other holostars or holomembers didn’t complain of theirs. I guess because one of them is already relatively successful in youtube and got surprised when his contract gives him less. Still a shame, they got in the best vtuber company, yet their ego stands on their way. Such a shame.

I wouldn't say that they were "too ambitious". Kiara once mentioned in a stream that when you get in as a talent, a lot would be stripped away from you, which she's referring to creative freedom. It pretty much came down to not wanting to conform to a corporate environment. Of course Magni would rather choose to graduate if he's more successful and has more creative freedom on his other channel. He can't make content like he has on his other channel because it's probably way too unhinged for those topics to get approval. He was essentially trying to juggle between two different personas with these restrictions, and some people started to notice it was taking a toll on him not too long before the hiatus. Vesper on the other hand...I do remember he requested perms for I Am Jesus Christ but he got shot down. I mean it's definitely inappropriate in management's eyes, but the point is that he realized that he can't really play what he wants while streaming as Vesper. He probably knew he would make less as an indie, but it seems he values the freedom more than the money. View it however you like, but at the end, it's really for their best interests. They're now able to remove their filters and not have to worry about getting in trouble.

It’s not always about money. It could be the creativity limitation or support limitation due to rules. It could also be problems while working with management. It’s hard when you have to hit those subs KPI, and you know how to, but most of the time those ideas got rejected. Don’t just think a contract as payment, but the responsibility for the whole next year.

I know it's not the time to be saying this but I had to watch this in 1.5x speed coz this could've been a 10min video easily but you kept in the long pauses which made it hard to watch.

Say what you will, but I appreciate the clipper didn't cut them out. The pauses are part of the genuine reaction of the JP Stars, especially Astel who streamed only a few hours after the announcement. The FF is there for those who don't care, like yourself, but if it were the other way around, I couldn't undelete the cut pauses
