Solarez UV Resins Product Review, Holsinger's Fly Shop

In this episode we look into UV resins used in fly tying in particular, Solarez UV Resin. I've been using UV glues for quite a while now and wouldn't want to tie without it. It makes tying so much easier. I go over two of the options we carry in the shop from Solarez and take 4 different flies to show you the different ways to use each product. Shawn. Like to share a personal experience using Bone Dry. Normally I use a bodkin to remove the excess when tying perdigons. Recently I got into a bad habit of touching the fly with the back of my finger to remove the excess resin prior to using the light. About 6 weeks ago I made a grave mistake of rubbing my eyes and nose with my finger which was contaminated with liquid Bone Dry. Ended up with thermal burns of the sensitive tissue of both eyes, nose and fumes went went into my nose and sinus cavity. Skin around eyes swelled and flaked dead skin for couple weeks. Looked like a raccoon. Luckily I didn’t get any on the eye itself. The vapors burnt the interior of my nose and now I have constant nose bleeds and and sinuses that are super sensitive. Not blaming the product as it is labeled with warnings. I like the product and still use it but don’t use my finger anymore. Just want to warn you and your customers of the hazards of having the liquid resin or vapors come in contact with your the sensitive parts of your skin. It actually burned the back of my finger so use a tool to remove any excess.

I have been using the solarez bone dry for awhile. Great head cement. I have had mine smoke pretty good and I’m using the uv infinite light from loon

I'm told but I haven't tried it. If you flash it for a second with the light to harden the outside then hit it again for 30 seconds to cure. Have you tried the medium viscosity from solarez yet. I like it a lot

I actually want to get some of them again in the 2 oz size. The flex would be perfect for shellbacks on caddis and like you said nymphs. I need to get some of all three. First have to get more orders in so I have money.

Will any uv light work with solarez?

Beth Pentz yes as long as it’s a UV light it will work. I will however say this. A good rule of thumb is you get what you pay for. The more you spend usually means the brighter the light and the brighter the quicker the glue dries.
