Nicely balanced sound. (Holst is the patron Saint of euphonists). Some groups play it too fast to show off their skills, but the music suffers; this tempo is just fine.
@TheMusicofDrewFennell2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You're not the first to comment on this (for the other movements as well). I agree. People often take the fast movements too fast and the slow movements too slow! In my opinion, there is a "correct tempo," for all four of the movements in the suite.

Happy Wednesday BrassNation! We have an awesome Brass Octet Version of Holst's "Second Suite in F" arranged for you by Drew Fennell and recorded by our talented musicians today. Hope you enjoy the first movement "March" and don't forget to show love and support by sharing, liking, commenting and subscribing. Sheet music and backing tracks are available for download at www.matonizz.com/product/second-suite-holst-octet/ Have a great week everyone!

As remarkably good as this rendition is, 34.99 is a little outrageous don't you think?
@Matonizz2 жыл бұрын
@@jigler Glad you enjoyed the arrangement and appreciate your feedback. This whole suite is over 10 minutes long, which required substantially more time, work and resources to arrange, record and publish. Our package for octet includes transposing parts in any practical key and clef, which allows for flexible instrumentation (182 pages in total in pdf file). However, producing that many parts require once again, substantially more time and resources, along with production, mixing and mastering of the backing tracks with real brass instruments for each movement. This suite costs a bit more than our regular stuff but hope that explains where the price is coming from and I can guaranty the quality in score, parts, arrangement and backing tracks is worth every dollar :) Once again, truly appreciate your feedback here :)

There is literally nothing wrong with this video. It's perfect. Well, one minor thing... I wasn't involved :) The euphonium is outstanding, the flugel is as good as Miles, and the tuba deserves an Oscar . That's not to diminish anyone. It's just the points that hit hard.

The Baritone has very good range. It can hit many of the high notes the trumpets do. It’s at home with the Trombones and can keep the beat, counter melodies as the Tuba. Yes! A magnificent instrument. Quite a lot to carry around as it’s case is large and learners are often small.
@mayorb33662 жыл бұрын
I used to be a euphonium player many years ago. I switched from trumpet, which I sucked at. I actually made all-state. And I figured out I could make very convincing cow sounds by going halfway on 4th valve.

I love hearing y’all play anything! I’m going to listen to it again. On my first listen, it seemed a little top heavy and the mid range not as strong from a balance point of view until we get to the euphonium solo. I’m using the triangle of balance method and that may be my problem. Each player is AMAZING and I love you guys!!! ❤❤❤❤

Thank you Eddie and very fair criticism with the middle voices. Glad you enjoyed it and more coming in next few weeks.
@TheMusicofDrewFennell2 жыл бұрын
Fair point. I did the mix, and I'll try not to take anything personally (haha, kidding). Honestly, I'm very careful about minding the balance between the parts (and you need to be when you record all the parts at different times and in different places). It could be my ear is just more attuned to the trumpet range. I don't know. I generally try to keep the lead line and the bass slightly above the accompaniment. Maybe that's why the middle is wanting.

@@eddietucker7005, you needn't ever apologize. It's not like you were being a jerk about it. It's all good.
