What do you think of the *ORPAZ DEFENSE LEVEL #2 RETENTION THUMBPRESS OWB HOLSTER* ? I have 3 of them, for the Glock 17 gen 5, Glock 22 gen 5 and M&P 2.0 Also i love owb holsters on paddles

You specified competition shooting, & I'm glad. I never really thought about competition shooters requiring a holster that needs to be much more durable than standard holsters. The thicker holster that uses the heavy duty belt lock (the lock has a specific name, which I can't recall) doesn't work well for concealed carry. It pushes the holster out away from your body, which causes the top heavy holster to lean. I was very careful not to end up with a box full of Do Not Like holsters, but it's possible I use some mediocre holters without knowing it.

Thanks for viewing and I appreciate the comments. You are so right about the competition holsters pushing away from the body and definitely leans. At that point you are basically open carrying with a cotton wrapper around the gun.

For durability I go with Safariland and Comp-Tac. They both make great heavy-duty thermoplastic molded holsters (not kydex) and heavy duty hardware.

Have you ever heard of *BLACK ARCH HOLSTERS* ? specifically the *PROTOS-M IWB* ? or *STEALTHGRAR USA HOLSTERS* ?

I've used Blade-Tech holsters and they seem to be pretty sturdy. (They are in OH as well.) They have a similar setup like your Black Scorpion.

I highly recommend Bianchi leather holsters those can last decades if taken care of, I've had one since 09 for my G19 & it's still holding up I oil it once a week with leather conditioning oil. I've read reviews from people who had theirs for 20+ years.

You know.....leather does make a ton of sense and it is something my tunnel vision never leads me to. And Bianchi is just about the gold standard. Thanks for the suggestion and taking the time to share!!

Great video it seems ever time I buy a firearm have to buy a new holster to go with it. And some of them are not cheap but new gun new holster lol.

Yeah the cost of holsters is pretty ridiculous these days and there really is no reason for it. The molds are costly to make for a new gun on the market but paying 100 bucks for a kydex Glock 17 holster is maddening. Thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment.

Would you recommend *ALIEN GEAR HOLSTERS* ? Specifically their shoulder holster?

Shoulder holsters no matter who makes them are like any other tool, they have their specific use. One of things you will sacrifice is speed related to accessibility. You do gain comfort, especially for larger platforms and concealability. One of the downsides is depending on the configuration, you do have to sweep or "flag" people with the muzzle to return it to the holster. As far as alien gear goes, they make a high quality product that people really seem to like. I would not be in anyway afraid of an alien gear purchase. Thanks for the view and the question.

This week we briefly discuss a few varieties of kydex holsters and some problems you may run into. Which holsters are your favorites? Its got to be leather mostly but occasionally suede leather, nylon, or neoprene. Comfortable and quiet. I even demand thinner leather holsters. Not bulky. Plastic is hard and rigid so it pokes and its thick and bulky compared to not all but many leather holsters. Plastic is also noisy. So my favorites are soft comfortable, thin, and quiet. I can choose friction retention holsters like Galco IWB and Bulldog OWB or stand alone retention like Kusiak IWB. Stand alone retention are usually tight fitting treated shaped and form fitted for a specific pistol while friction retention can often accommodate several different pistols. I also keep a few friction retention Uncle Mikes IWB nylon lined neoprene holsters. These would be IWB and OWB. For a calf holster I prefer a neoprene stretch BugBite holster. For shoulder holsters I would go back to Galco leather horizontal. My revolver holster is an IWB/OWB (works both inside and outside) Andicen leather with a thumb break. I don't put optics or lights on my pistols. I keep them lean and mean. I don't shoot competition matches anymore but I do practice with my pistols a lot and my holsters do hold up to wear. My holsters are mostly IWB for concealed carry but my OWB holsters are fine for covered or open carry.

What would you recommend for a level #2 retention owb holster?

Though a bit pricey.......Safariland. They just seem to have it figured out and the amount of agencies using their products is pretty insane. Tried and tested is the way to go in my mind.

Bought a Rounded holster for a pistol recently that is so flimsy it has just become a trigger guard sheath in a range bag. Neato idea, poor execution.
