As a mathematician who's dealth with this particular problem I can fully empathize with Kevin, because right after the identical bit comes the most important one where the phrasing matters. If someone explains it sloppy (and not according to the actual problem), the results do change. It is crucial to know that the show master knows where the car is. So him butting in and taking over in order to make the point clear is probably necessary. And if Holt has already explained it once to someone els, "you're telling it wrong" definitely applies.
