Holy Cross Jeep Trail I French Creek I Excavator Work

Have you driven the Holy Cross Trail? Would you take an excavator to French Creek? Follow along as we track a machine to French Creek and build drainage features to prevent water erosion and keep the creek in the channel. The CORE Trail Crew spent three days on the trail and accumulated several hundred volunteer hours to keep the trail in good condition and open into the future.

That is taking a lot of skill to maneuver that excavator up that road. That is a rough road up there, but you guys managed to get up there and back with a job well done. I just hope that all that travels this road can appreciate your hard work to make it a much better trail. Thanks to all that participated.

At first I thought “oh no! They’re gunna make the trail so easy that my ex’s Honda civic can make it back there!” I see what you’re doing. Thanks for being stewards to our trails so we can hopefully enjoy them for many years to come.

For sure! The trail is a bit more difficult in certain areas after the work. But, the goal was to in no way alter obstacles or take away the desired challenge.

I was there many years ago with a group. French creek crossing was super hard with big boulders.

For the most part, the uphill boulders at the creek crossing are unchanged. We didn't alter anything with our work. Increased use over the years has changed the sides of the obstacle a bit. A far-right line wasn't available many years ago, and the left side seems to continue to change.
