This is absolutely beautiful and fills my heart with joy. In today's America the romantic, pair-bonded relationship is held as the highest form of love, and IMO that, even more than the horrible abuse scandal, is what keeps people away from the priesthood. That these two men choose to give that up and dedicate their lives to God and their whole community is inspiring. Unfortunately, the comment section below is one of the most cranky I've seen in a long time. "The tempo is too fast" "the soprano sucks"... well I think it's gorgeous. And the "no clapping in church for any reason" people are being dogmatic about something that isn't dogma. The applause is beautiful! It's an expression of the joy I felt watching this video.

Beautiful hands down, no question about it. But, "Wherever applause breaks out in the liturgy because of some human achievement, it is a sure sign that the essence of liturgy has totally disappeared and been replaced by a kind of religious entertainment. Such attraction fades quickly - it cannot compete in the market of leisure pursuits, incorporating as it increasingly does various forms of religious titillation” Pope Benedict XVI I grew up with applause, including from my mother, at the end of novus ordo masses when the guitars finished playing. IDK if those were the "good days" in the church or not. Maybe the storm hadn't hit yet or caught the weather guy's eye. The storm has blown me back to the traditional camp and my mother sent me her old Latin missal she grew up with. "Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours." St. Paul

I've always been of the opinion that clapping is okay when it's something done through God and not through man. Moments like after people enter the church at the Easter Vigil or when a man is given Holy Orders that's not a human achievement it's celebrating the work God has done through man.
@julianmahler23882 жыл бұрын
It's an ordination mass. They are applauding and congratulating the new priests (or whatever they are called in English). They even applaud after ordination masses in Germany, where applauding in a church is definitely not a normal thing to do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4jHXqqOptSZZqc

When I was a youngster in Arizona, 50's, early 60's, people didn't clap after Mass. In the military service at Air bases when I would go to Mass people did not clap. I lived much of my adult life in California and people did not clap after Mass. But they were always ordinary Masses, even Holy days. I find now, here in Texas people do applaud at the end of the last hymn. Of course, I've never been to a Mass of ordination. People seem to do it as a symbol or re enforcement of their idea that it is okay to go to church in today's modern world. I sincerely hope it comes from their hearts and not their egos. But it seems to be the local custom and while I don't clap because I didn't grow up with it, I don't have a problem with it. Applause is collective approval and I'd rather have it rather than shouts and whistles as if people were at a football game. Going to Mass is solem dedication which should come from the heart and agreement of both mind and heart. I too cherish my Catholic Faith.

See, in a way I agree with you, but also no. When my brother was ordained, we clapped. Briefly. Ordination is essentially the priest marrying the Church, so I saw it as no different that a brief applause during a wedding, to celebrate the Bride and Groom's vocation. Just another perspective. The clapping wasn't for the music, but for the new priests and a celebration and show of support and love for their vocation. I'm not for clapping during Mass after music or most things, but this is appropriate, I think.

Pace was a bit circus-like, like some who race through the recitation of the rosary! Plus, the applause in the House of God (a "Catholic Cathedral") was inappropriate. Blending of the secular festivities with the dignity of a Catholic ceremony/Mass is something only Protestants or modernists who adore humanity would embrace.
@michaelrichards6276 жыл бұрын
The applause was not for the hymn, but rather as a sign of congratulations for the newly ordained. It a wonderful sign of acceptance and gratitude to God for His gift of the priesthood.
@brynnkohler40846 жыл бұрын
I know it was for the newly ordained "priests" -- clapping in a Catholic Church (regardless of what your buffoon of a bishop allows per the new modern ecumenism) is still inappropriate. What's next, Michael? If Christ showed up would you feel more prone to give him a high five or hug or genuflect and bow before the King of Heaven? Applause is a sign of gratitude in a SECULAR setting (e.g. an auditorium or park), not in a house of worship, unless you're a wishy-washy evangelical with drum sets and PowerPoint presentations as your sacristy.
@cabwaldo6 жыл бұрын
Yes. There's a reason why we don't clap at Mass. But I also think there's something to be said about the way you expressed it. Would you say that to your priest, that no one should applaud him on the day that he makes the biggest decision of his life, to become a representative of Jesus? Keep in mind, they weren't clapping during Mass either.
@brynnkohler40846 жыл бұрын
I would. A House of Worship is not an auditorium, it is the place of God's dwelling (that is, if this church actually has a tabernacle). Clap all you want, kiss and hug him, give a fist pump outside the church at the reception, meal or other secular gathering. Clapping in a Catholic Church is a modernist, Protestant error that has infiltrated His Church.
@cabwaldo6 жыл бұрын
Brynn Kohler Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see the church fade in any of her teachings. But God wants us to spend the life he gave us doing good for others. Does that include accusing people over a simple issue of reverence benefit anyone? Is it righteous to.yell at someone for not genuflecting? But it's fine to politely point it out that it is done out of respect, and even an opportunity to pray for someone if they continue in lack of reverence. I'm sure you've noticed the vocation crisis across the world. To have these men choose the priesthood and have this support is wonderful. In today's world, it takes a big heart to reach others. In order for the Church to be strong in teaching and in numbers, respect for Jesus and his people is key.

All I have to say to you is that if you do not worship God and enter Islam as the last of the religions, and this is known to the Christians and Jews, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God (Do they not contemplate the Qur’an, even if it was from other than God, they would have found in it much difference) If you do not believe in God and Muhammad, the last of the messengers, you will enter Hell and will not come out. From it, and you will not die in it, it will remain forever. I wish you to turn your face to the sky and tadoa to God to guide you to the straight path.
