Epica is just like Nightwish in that they just don't produce anything bad.....like ever.....every single song is amazing. It is unreal how good they are. The 2013 Retrospect show is Epica's must experience just like Nightwish and the 2013 Wacken performance. Have fun brother.

"Epica is just like Nightwish in that they just don't produce anything bad.....like ever.....every single song is amazing." Oh please, do not associate EPICA with Nightwish. As much as I like NW, their recent materials have been so underwhelming. EPICA, as usual, never disappoints their fanbase.

@@vladimirastero6537 nice opinion Vlad. thanks for sharing. I will, however, continue to make the comparison because I absolutely love the Human Nature album. I also listen in equal amounts to Epica's Omega album. I also look forward to the Nightwish web event coming up next month.

@@vladimirastero6537 so because you didn't like the last material of Nightwish we can't associate two bands that are clearly associated? Nice (i)logic you have there

@@infin8reactions Good! :) Btw, not sure if someone already told you, but Mark Jansen, the founder of Epica was in a band called After Forever, where Floor Jansen was the lead singer (same surnames, but no relation). After the departure from AF, Mark formed Epica, Floor later formed her own band ReVamp, before she joined Nightwish. Simone Simons was Mark's girlfriend at the time, so she ended up joining Epica. We are lucky this happened. Both these ladies are incredible and both bands make amazing music :) If you wanna see them singing together, a wonderful Baroque piece "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" in Latin, watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJnXgIKIjrl6rpo

Arien van Weesenbeek on drums. Hitting things since he was 3 according to his parents - then he found his dad's drumkit. Did you catch Coen (keyboards) face after that first impromptu scream? "HMmmm! I think that went well!" 3:48 raised eyebrow. Brilliant! Your face made this reaction the best I've seen! Coen played part of the French National Anthem because they were in Paris!

The "wall of Epica" is a very common occurence in extreme metal shows, the usual name is "wall of death". (search for "epic wall of death" on KZbin, you'll be amazed! lol) Just like the "circle pit" (a variant of the well-known "mosh pit") that you can see the band "request" with hand gestures at 10:30 and quick glimpses from the crowd action beginning at 10:46.

Epica - Universal Death Squad (Official Lyric Video). For Simone outside Epica, try Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down and Kamelot - The Haunting (Live and Official Music Video).

Hey, nice that you are digging into more symphonic metal. Epica goes deeper in the "Beauty/Beast" dichotomy in the vocals, they have overall a heavier sound with lead and rythmic guitar and also utilize heavily the choir both male and female, usually with latin lyrics. It's a whole different style from Nightwish, which is one of the things I love about the genre, it isn't repetitive or boring at all. At the same time they are somewhat connected since Simone got really inspired by Tarja singing in the Oceanborn album, and as you probably know is a close friend with Floor, while Mark the other vocalist and guitarist shared After Forever with her. As others said the Restrospect show (the one that Floor is guest) is a must watch, it's like this but with a full orchestra on the stage and most of their greatest songs
@davidfrischknecht82612 жыл бұрын
Epica also has a connection with the American symphonic metal band Kamelot. They took their name from a Kamelot album and Simone is married to Kamelot's keyboardist.

I've already recorded another song but I'll get to that soon don't worry 😊
@@infin8reactions The growling guitarist who also spoke in the beginning is Mark Jansen, the founder of Epica. Usually it's just him and Simone singing (plus choir). The contrast between her angelic soprano and his death growls / screams is called "beauty and the beast", the concept which comes from gothic metal. In this performance, the lead guitarist Isaac Delahaye helped out Mark with growls and it sounded great. Isaac has even deeper growls as you can hear at 11:14 :) The keyboardist is Coen Janssen, another founding member. Then the drummer Arien van Weesenbeek, and the bass player is Rob van der Loo. If you were wondering about Coen's piano melody at 7:39, it is the national anthem of France, since the show was in Paris :) If you like a bit more complex songs, I would suggest to react to Universal Death Squad (official lyrics video): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpC8pJKNbN6Goa8 - incredible music. If you think you are ready for Epica's magnum opus, you can do Kingdom of Heaven. The song has 5 movements, 13 minutes in total and it is a true masterpiece of symphonic metal: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hneYZ3dvotefmc0 You can choose either the live show or official lyrics video.
