James Drinkwater is a Newcastle-based artist whose practice traverses painting, sculpture, assemblage and collage. He makes work about place, intimacy and memory, using abstraction, colour and mark making for transmission of these preoccupations. Drinkwater studied at the National Art School, Sydney, before moving to Melbourne and then Germany. His work is held in major public and private collections both nationally and internationally, including the Macquarie Group Collection, Artbank, Allens law firm, the Newcastle Art Gallery, and private collections in New York, Singapore, Germany and the UK. In some points you are wright, but i think modern art is more about a message. To understand a message it is important to know who has send it. In other words modern art is more about a story, if you don't understand it you have to think about it to understand....this is art. To think about it is the nature of art. For me its not very important how art reaches this. Modern or not, if you feel it you don't have to think any more, but if you think about it over and over....its wright.
