Many "hymn tunes" - originated not in the sacred but in the secular "side" of creation. Notes beneath "Fairest Lord Jesus" were a beer hall waltz! Composers and poets who adapt new lyrical prayer to proven melodies are blest with the gift of "aural" vision. Writing texts to a syllabic meter is a near-mathematical effort. Matching a "classic" tune to the Magnificat - its nothing short of the Spirit's work. How do you make the Magnificat a joy for an assembly - weld it to an Irish/Celtic tune!
