I have to agree with Tim Vandevest. That saw popped off on the first pull after you primed it with fuel. May have over chocked it. This is a great example of what we all go threw with trying to start some of these saws. It happens to all of us. Take don't take it the wrong way Boedy. But I enjoyed watching this. This happens to me a lot. I could feel your pain. Some subscribers recommend pulling the governor on this saw. I have sold many of the 2100"s in my day. Mostly with 5 foot bars to loggers in my area . Mostly to cut White and Red Oak. Leave the governor in. This saw was designed to pull and work very hard. I must say I never really got many of them back with problems. One well built chain saw.

I really like mine. You have to get it to compression and then pull for all its worth. Don’t do what I done on camera and forget to turn it on and pull a few times. The pins that hold the starter paws in sometimes like to back out, especially if you took the recoil off and just put it back on without pulling the rope to get the paws to swing out of the way.

I’ve never run a 2100, but I do have a 285cd, which looks identical to the 2100 minus the manual oil pump. My 285 has so much compression that I always start it on the ground and don’t snatch the rope, I get the pawls engaged and then pull
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't drop start that saw or you'll blow out the starter paws on that recoil. You should pull lightly until they engage the flywheel then pull. Also, use the throttle lock to set high idle.

Was it too lean or rich when you first cut?
@novicelumberjack2 жыл бұрын
Too rich. I kept expecting that the 3/4 turn on the hi jet was too lean because the previous owner didn't understand the governed carburetor. Turns out, it was pretty close to 3/4. Not sure exactly where it ended up, but probably close to 3/4 turns.

The 2100 is the modern day 395xp basically. Yeh they are hard to start but beast of a saw!
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing2 жыл бұрын
I'd argue the validity of that. The 2100 had a larger stroke but same bore. The 2100 predates the 395 by 2 generations. The 394 is the predecessor to the 395.
@NothingButChainsaws2 жыл бұрын
@@Woodman_Custom_Sawing I read where they based the 395 off the 2100!
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing2 жыл бұрын
@@NothingButChainsaws I dont know where you read that but like I said, the 394 came before the 395. In fact, the 395 is the same as the 394 except it has a rubber intake boot and a quad transfer design. If anything the 394 is more similar to the 2100 than the 395 because the 394 has dual transfers and a block style intake. Everything you said about the 2100 being a modern 395 in your first post doesnt make sense.

Holly ring gap hopefully you put new rings in that saw
@novicelumberjack2 жыл бұрын
So, I thought the same thing. Turns out, thin rings had a huge gap because there is no cutout for the pins. Normal. I checked, it was at .080! But that's just how the thin rings are. Clearly, it's not down on compression!
