I love stores like this. I go outta my way away from big box stores and seek out stores like this. They are like museums and interactive and top notch customer service. I never get a special feeling in big box stores, conversely I feel at home in a family run store such as retro Rick. Good vibes and sparks the childhood good memories playing video games and not having grown up cares and worries that we all face. What a cool place.

5:35 In 1979, Sharp Corporation had released a grill oven range called the Family Convection Oven or “Famicon” for short. In Japanese that’s written as ファミコン which is exactly how Famicom with an “M” at the end is written, as well. In Japanese, these two would be pronounced the same, despite English spelling differences. The trademark law in Japan does allow for the same term to be trademarked more than once, but the products must fall under separate classifications. By the time 1983 rolled around, everything should have been fine. Except the Sharp Famicon was classified as a “consumer electronic device” - a term which broadly covering practically anything used in homes. Nintendo was locked out, and was forced to go with the term "Family Computer" instead - although fans called it Famicom from day one. Thankfully, the dispute ended amicably. There wasn’t any court case, likely because Nintendo didn’t have much standing at the time. According to a Japanese book called “Strange Trademarks”, the trademark was officially transferred on 17th October 1985. Because Sharp already had the rights to the term Famicom, Nintendo licensed out the use of Family Computer hardware to Sharp, which resulted in a few products, such as the Famicom Titler, Famicom TV and Twin Famicom - all of which are branded by Sharp and use the word Famicom prominently. While Nintendo now owns the right to use the word Famicom, later hardware models still say Family Computer, keeping things uniform. Micro Machines are cool....especially for me. The guy who came up with the idea for them and designed the first ones worked as a teacher at the college I went to. His cubicle that he had was covered bottom to top in them. He says that with the deal he had with the company any new micro machine that came out he was sent them. Easy to say he had the best cubicle in the college.

What percentage of market value do these stores usually offer for a lot? I’ve tried to sell a lot to every retro game store in my city, and they offered between 20-30%, which seemed way too low to me. I get that they need to make money, but jeez. Is that normal?

Well, I have 160 N64 games myself. I still need Daikatana and PGA European Tour. Throw in Green Day Rock Band, and that would be some nice gets. I just got Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock and Metallica. Guitar Hero Metallica goes for about $50, and I got it for $22.
