That tent basketball hoop is actually a laundry hamper. The whole idea was to shoot your dirty socks etc into the basket. Someone apparently cut the bottom out. I had one of these back in the day.

I recently thought about the question: "What kind of game collector am I?" It came up because I had the opportunity to buy a limited edition console (which of course was more expensive than a regular console). Now, I have almost all my games and consoles I have bought since 1992. Every console I own (totaling 19) is setup to play somewhere in my home, most in my gameroom, but three on the bedroom TV. But, I decided to pass on the LE console as I am not that kind of collector. It's cool - but I would rather spend the extra bucks on games I would play - and play them on my plain jane console. So, I admire and appreciate the collections of rare and unique items. But for me the question is - is it going to increase the enjoyment of my game playing. And it just does not for me. Unrelated I know, but your title question made me think of it.

Hey Rick was amazing getting to meet you at Torg this year. I was the big bald guy with glasses that just started collecting Xbox and GameCube games that probably got a bit too excited when I seen you and asked for a picture lmao. It's cool to see some of what you picked up from there I wish I woulda seen that Mario party duffle bag while I was there I woulda snatched that up.

I can't say what it's like to run a game store these days, but I can tell what it was like back in the 90s. I used to own a store in Oceanside, CA that sold video games and anime. For video games, I could not go directly through the game companies to acquire stock. Since I was not "big enough", I had to go through approved distributors. Wholesale pricing on games was terrible. If a game had an MSRP of say $49.99, the whole price I would get was around $44 - $47. That and there was practically no discount for consoles. I was lucky to get a console for $1 off of MSRP. The distributors excuse was "well you need to get the consoles out to people so you can make money off of the games!" Anime on the other hand was another story. I was able to go directly through Viz Communications and as long as I spent at least $1,000 per order, they would give me 50% off of the order. Unfortunately, due to operating costs and lack of profits on games, I ended up having to close the store. At the time, most people wanted N64, Playstation and Saturn games. It was hard picking up used inventory of those to sell... whereas the stuff I could get (NES, SNES, Genesis, etc...), people weren't as interested in those systems at the time so I did not bother obtaining much of that stuff.
