It’s also an issue on prado’s that have dual batteries fitted. When they put the bigger battery in the secondary place a lot of the times the clip on the inner guard gets broken from trying to push the aircon line away from the battery. This then causes the aircon lines to rub against each other down towards the firewall resulting in the alloy line getting a hole in it. Big job to replace with a genuine pipe as it’s for the dual aircon and runs through to the rear.

About 5 years ago our 1kD 2008 had its pipe rubbing and wore in a “nice” (not really) groove about 2-3 mm. Amazing it didn’t leak. Still going strong.

my 2kd with variable vane turbo (so visually a close match with the 1kd) has that same pipe but it has a decent sleeve over it.

Can I just use metal cable ties to create a sort of pull line and tie it to something to hold it back?

Just use a plastic cable tie. I’d put and extra bit of tubing over it first though just in the spot then cable tie over that
