Hello Dustin thanks for sharing this helpfull video. It helped me a lot in understanding the poweregg x better. You experienced some Obsticale avoidance and return to home function failures during the making of your video. i found out in my training that is related to the disturbance of the surroundings that influence the proximity sensor. With a proximity sensor, the drone gets more functions and you can fly more safely. Most proximity sensors are ultrasonic. These sensors work best on hard surfaces such as concrete. Grass and the like can absorb the signal and make the proximity sensor less effective.

Hi, the Holy Stone Drone Go2 app has be updated that allows doing a firmware update to the Holy Stone RID modules. After doing that firmware update, all my phones and tablet "Karen" apps now let me see RID information being transmitted. Doing the firmware update was very straight forward. Start the module and then push the power button before the module goes into the RID transmitting mode. Select the module using the updated Drone Go2 app and the screen will inform you that a firmware update is available. The firmware update takes less than a minute. It is nice to know that there is a firmware update capability built into the Holy Stone RID module so that any other RID transmission issues can be resolved.

And for the people that think this is "for safety", 80% of the apps out there do not detect this device... BUT it IS compliant and broadcasting as REQUIRED by the FAA. The rules aren't for "public aid" as declared. 😢 But thank you for the review, best price I've seen to be compliant. ... Although 15g on a drone is a bit much. LOL

Thanks so much. I will say, If you have a drone more than 249 grams this little Remote ID module is not going to matter to the drone very much. My Mini3 pro and my HS360S are less than 249 but I fly them it all the time with my required anti-collision light for night flights and it does not affect the flight experience. I actually use 3 lights on my Mini 3 pro at times when doing commercial work for additional visibility. On on the top and on each side. 👍 I am also PT 107 Certified. I have to have a Module on all drones for commercial work even less than 249g. But my MINI 3 Pro is my current commercial Drone.

Thanks for your great review. I do have a question. Given the RID module is broadcasting the module's registered ID number along with GPS location, height and speed, other than the module's number and my FAA registration has number, if I'm only flying RECREATIONAL, do the lines in the app labeled model, weight and class make any difference or show up on a pilot's radar or to a FAA inspector and to law enforcement personnel? In other words, if as a recreational flyer I'm using one module for all my legacy drones and I want to reduce the start up steps for having to delete and change information from drone to drone, can I leave the app lines for model, weight and class blank or maybe use generic info if something has to be entered on the lines to activate the module?
@AlToneTech
@AlToneTech Жыл бұрын
Please double check my answer against the FAA site in case of changes or updates, but I do not think they will matter as long as your RID module is also registered with the FAA on the drone zone site. I would look at the largest of my aircraft and use that weight then possibly put recreational, plane, quad, Heli or something like that in Model. I'm sure that would satisfy the FAA with current rules.
@Hat_Uncle
@Hat_Uncle Жыл бұрын
Recreational flyer can use same TRUST cert for all aircraft and also same registered REAL ID for all aircraft.
@AlToneTech
@AlToneTech Жыл бұрын
@@Hat_Uncle Yes they can, but they still need to register the REMOTE ID Module in the FAA drone zone. I do not believe the rest of the information matters too much at least at this time as long as the module is registered to the pilot. Also as you stated they need to also have their trust certification.
@Ruespieler

If I understand the regulations correctly, if you fly under a part 107 license, ALL drones have to be registered AND have remote ID regardless of size/weight. The 249 grams exception boundary only applies to drones flown by recreational flyers. What a lot of people also don't realize is that if you post your drone's aerial videos on KZbin and the videos get monetized/collect ad revenue, the gov considers that commercial use and people have been receiving fines for that.
@AlToneTech
@AlToneTech 11 ай бұрын
For the most part you are correct but, it is based on the intention of the flight. If you are flying for the purpose of supporting or advancing a business or to make money, you need to have your PT107 and you need to have a separate RID Module for every drone regardless of the size. But If the intent of your flight is recreational and you after share your flights with family and friends then you only need your Trust Certification an to register yourself as a recreational pilot with the FAA. As a recreational pilot if any of your drones are more that 249g then they have to still be registered separately but you only need a single RID Module. I would say that if someone has a KZbin channel for the purpose of sharing thier life events an experiences with family and friends, and they share drone footage with them, this is considered recreational.. Once they Monetize they do not have to take down previous video but they should be very careful when uploading additional footage, and should consider getting their PT107 because a monetized KZbin channel can be considered a business. I have my PT 107 for this very reason. Thanks for the comment!

I read a story from a guy that went to an FAA meeting where this topic was brought up. The FAA rep said, if you use your drone for anything but recreation you must have a 107 certification. The rep apparently said that using your drone to , say, check your gutters for leaves, was using it outside of the scope of "recreational" as you would be using it for a specific purpose. If you do not have a part 107 cert you could THEORETICALLY pretty much do what you want, fly out beyond line of sight, over 400 feet, and claim ignorance if caught. If you have a part 107 cert there's no pleading ignorance because you should know.
@eagleviewhd
@eagleviewhd 9 ай бұрын
I think you are wrong about the KZbin video monetary fact. The FAA says if you are flying the drone with intent of it being recreational, you are not a commercial pilot. If you just happen to be taking video that you later upload, it is OK. The key word is intention of flight. If it was intended as a recreational flight, it is. What happens afterwords is irrelevant.

Hi, I can now detect that both of my Holy Stone RID modules are transmitting RID data. This morning as a last resort, I added Drone Scanner, Air Sentinel and OpenDroneID app to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 tablet. I have no idea why I was not able to detect transmission with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Apple iPhone SE, or UAS Sentry device. Holy Stone told me that they use Bluetooth 5.0. Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone SE use Bluetooth 5.0, but didn't detect RID transmission. I am disappointed that the UAS Sentry device didn't detect the Holy Stone module RID transmission.

Currently it Is very difficult to see the transmission. There is a Github article explaining it. Many phones especially iPhones can not currently pick them up. I have a MINI 3 Pro that is also broadcasting but I can not pick it up on my iPhone or my Android phone. There are a few Samsung phones that will not pick up the signal. Here is the article. github.com/opendroneid/receiver-android/blob/master/supported-smartphones.md?fbclid=IwAR3T24QBVQrh-N7e773NQMzUl1oHWMxePRbFYtV2p_TkBDxFo0c-7rz-Kdg_aem_ATqoBt9bKMRAbH3Gj9tXzYDLv39xgcnh-e5R7CE8d--zg-ILjBp6VzQu0BeKDfXX3To&mibextid=Zxz2cZ Hope this helps! "Greater than 249 grams" should be greater than "249.7 grams". The actual regulation is written in lbs and recreational drones are exempt from requiring remote ID if they weigh "0.55lbs or less". 0.55lbs = (454grams/lb)*(0.55) = 249.7g You commonly hear this referred to in metric measure as "less than 250g" but that is also technically incorrect and fails to account for 0.3g, the difference between 250g and 249.7g. If you're going to reference this regulation as it applies in the USA in metric it would be "249.7 grams or less" or "greater than 249.7 grams". It's amazing to me how this has been so misunderstood by so many people.

No remote if module built in or otherwise works with every app on every device. Pilot Institute made a video on that point. I even posted a link to info on a page that explains it if you look at my comments. Here is where you can find the DOC. uasdoc.faa.gov/listDocs/RID000000290 It doesn’t matter if you can see it or not with your mobile device. FAA and government agencies that need to verify have a different device that allows them to verify its working. As long as they can see it your good. But I do understand the desire to be able to verify it yourself. I can’t see my mini 3 Pro myself but I know it’s working because I’ve seen the rid self check run before it would allow me to fly. Hope that helps.

Does anyone know what to put under "UAV Class" for FAA registered drones? The app defaults to "C2" which I dont think applies to fhe U.S. Because of this the module shows up in tracking as "CAA REGISTERED..." Thanks!

That rating defaults to a level based on the weight of the drone. Anything not required in the US to be broadcast I wouldn’t worry about. Just make it as accurate as possible. This Module was made to work in many countries.

Hi, thank you for the information. I have the Holy Stone RID module where I selected "Other" and entered the information for the intended drone. What drone scanning app are you using that shows that the Holy Stone is transmitting RID information?

Thanks for watching.. I will be honest upfront. I have not been able to get my MINI 3 Pro or even this module to show up on any app on iPhone or Android. My Understanding is that the best app to use in on Android Air Sentinel app. I know they are both approved by the FAA for RID so I have been trying to see what may be the issue with seeing the broadcast from my HS RID or even my MINI 3 Pro. I do plan to do further testing and trust me when I am able to pick up the info I will do a video sharing not only what information is being broadcast based on the included options but also at what range it Is viewable. I think this is something everyone wants to see. I will say however with all of the concern with remote id, with the difficulty receiving the broadcast info, I do believe that the worries that many have that they will be tracked when flying their drone is pretty much non existent at this point. 👍

Hi @@AlToneTech, I have asked Holy Stone a couple of times how I can know that the Holy Stone RID module is broadcasting RID information. They always come back saying if the status light is blinking the module is transmitting RID information. Those replies don't impress me. One would think that Holy Stone would put out an app that shows the RID module broadcasting RID information.

@@ssb73q Yes I understand but I do not see it as HS doing anything wrong. DJI has not put out an app either showing that information. And like I said. I have not been able to locate my MINI 3 Pro Using any of the apps on Android or iPhone either. Until I am able to find the app and phone that can detect either of them, I trust that they work based on the FAA approving the device. The real problem here is determining if your purchased device is defective or not performing properly, I know. But there is.. at least to me.. no difference with any of the known devices so far. Everyone has trouble with different apps detecting the RID modules in use. (See Pilot Institutes Video on the test they performed) Im in an AMA club with over 50 members.. our site is not yet approved as a FRIA, and I know that our club pres has ordered the Spectrum RID solution. I will be touching base with others to see if they are able to detect their devices and also checking to see if I can detect theirs and if they can also detect mine. Once I have more info I will definitely share it. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Im sure others have the same questions and concerns.
