In a short 3 year window, Los Angeles based Holy Terror created a demo and 2 full-lengths worth of truly inspiring, ground breaking even, thrash metal that borrowed from both US power metal and speed metal to arrive at a sound all their own. Armed with the SAVAGE twin guitar offensive of Kurt Kilfelt (From Agent Steel) and Mike Alvord, the musical construction raged between expertly layered twin harmonies and dueling solo work, hurled deep into the flames by some of the tightest palm muted triplets and stunning riff work in the game. The rhythm section of bassist Floyd Flanary and drummer Joe Mitchell dipped into a colorful lockstep of Maidenism's that were not only the glue, but somehow just as pleasingly over the top as the rest of the blazing procession. And then there was Keith Dean (R.I.P.)... a vocal force that soared over the top with grit and charm, somehow choking out vocal harmonies over fast and busy guitar work, with equally compacted lyrical phrasing. He was an undeniable talent and yet another important link in a very atypical and unique chain. We feel that Mind Wars is a very special American release that was seemingly overlooked in a sea of Bay Area thrash bands. Join us tonight as we discuss this classic.
