i would like to see more videos regarding the Holzman 400FD. i do have a smaller version the 300FD and i'm happy up to now. With a good care you can cut steel. The threading procedure is a bit time consuming changing gears on the side but it works great.

Amazing explanation , Thank you i hope i can get metal lather before i retire.... , would be nice if you can make another video what type of work you can do on that size of the machine, biggest and smallest parts. Different tool combinations, maybe you have some tools that you made your self, and so on.....

Yes there will be more parts later this year. Thank you for asking.

Hi again Jaap, Did you grind the jaws in the chuck? I see that my jaws are also a bit off. Mainly I see that the jaws only make contact to the work piece at 1 cm farthest in. (No contact at the tip or in the middle.) So I think I shall grind the jaws very gentle and see if it improves. Another thing I wan to do is to replace the spindle bearings with better quality. There seem to be movement from the engine and pulley that en up in the chuck and work piece. Have you done any similar operation in your lathe?
@belabaksa16694 жыл бұрын
Dear Jaap Dekker, I watched his films in which Holzmann tested and demonstrated the ED400 lathe. I would like to ask for your advice, because I would like to buy a machine of a similar category for modeling and DIY. The two devices you choose are the HBM 210 Vario and the Holzmann lathe you use. The price and parameters of the two devices are largely the same. (Do you happen to just not make them in China?) So there remains an important issue even more durability and reliability. Since your film has been made for three years, I think you have gained enough experience. I would like to ask how satisfied you are with the machine or would you buy it again based on your impressions? Thanks to: Béla Baksa (Hungary)

Danke in voraus. Gruß

Hello Jaap, thank you for your efforts in filming this series, hope to see Part 4 when you get it uploaded. I am looking at buying a lathe and have looked at the Optimum brand and also looking at the Holzmann brand. I am in Germany and these are widely available here. Would you buy this lathe again knowing the faults it has? Would much appretiate your input. I am looking at a bigger model than the one you have here.

You can adjust the runout of a 3 jaw chuck,make sure you have a slight reduction on the chuck back plate spigot,then you can true the chuck,by tapping it true with a padded hammer.

Hello Jaap! Great trilogy on the Holzmann lathe! I have the Quantum 210x400 and can totally relate to your issues and some more. Mine has been taken apart, converted etc. on more than one occasion by now. Still they are great machines with a little adjusting here and there, just as you've shown. And they are WAY above the common 7x14 mini lathes. I have another project for you: check the spindle bearings for lubrication ;) I've found mine to be almost dry by default, which is unfortunately very common with these machines (although it's not very known of, since barely anyone ever checks that). Pulling out the spindle required a bit of improvising (unless you want to relentlessly hammer it out), but at last i properly applied some grease to my bearings now. Waiting for your video on grinding the spindle's MT3!

G’day and greetings from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 as you said it doesn’t matter with these machines they are all built at the same place in China apart from Optimum lathes and mill are made in Taiwan they have a bit better quality. Hi Jaap, nice video. (I'll stick to English for your other viewers) I guess we're both working in the same directions with out lathes. Mine is a PX brand, and I think the colour scheme is just a coincidence. You can phone a guy in china and start your own brand of Lathes tomorrow in any 2 or 3 colours if you like. Mine was a display model at a VDH in Utrecht. (It was in a price range just below the HBM counterparts which were out of stock at that time). from what I've been told with these lathes you get exactly what you pay for, the more expensive models (brands) are tighter on the tolerances and have better finish work. I bought a set of inserted cutting tools with my lathe, but in my 4-way toolpost these tools were a bit above centre height, so I had had to have my toolholder reworked a bit. I've already spotted a few differences between our lathes. I wonder does yours have the 'induction hardened' label at the end on the casting? and does the Rev counter circuit board have the Sieg marking on the PCB? Gr, Martijn
@ScrapDMX7 жыл бұрын
I was mistaken about the name on the pcb, it says www.weiss.com.cn
@jaapdekker59837 жыл бұрын
Hi Martijn, I thought you were Dutch watching your videos. It is indeed very sympathetic of you towards other viewers to stay with the English language. As far as I could tell from your videos you have virtually the same machine with some minor differences as I have. We both try to upgrade to lathe to european standards. I believe I did not see the "induction hardened" sign on mine neither did I see the Sieg marking on the PCB. Keep up the good work man, you are very inspiring to me.geetings, Jaap

????? gr

You say the German machines would be accurate. What machines are you referring to precisely? Im a beginner but do not want to buy something out of alignment. Dont want to deviate from my path im on. Just want a good machine from start.

There are better lathes but they cost more. This one is now functioning o.k. I am on a budget and then you have tweak a bit. Of course I bought this one new. You can also consider buying second hand. If you are lucky you get an upscale lathe for a reasonable price.

Im right or every lathe running on minimum speed when they green button is on ? can u give me answer beacause for the moment i think my speed button is broken.

Chuck running extaly the same like your about 0.01mm but with rod is huge difference beside jaws running is about 0.2mm in lenght 200mm from jaws is 0.5mm that is realy huge. Definytly im sure the problem is with chuck jaws. Your orginal chuck was sanou Brand my is Different. Im sure i have to grinding jaws to get better result. Also i find the same problem with tailstock. I checked it on chuck and is going down about 0.03mm only in lenght 5cm so need correct that too. You do realy nice job with all 3 parts thanks
