We had a lot of comments asking about the Homag v500. Here is a quick look at the vertical cnc machine and why Tyler added it to his shop. If you have specific questions, just ask.

This is the type of video I absolutely love and appreciate. You guys are awesome. This will definitely help us grow our business - seeing higher level equipment and knowing what is possible.

We are just trying to post what I have wanted to help us. There are not enough videos explaining the equipment. Let us know if you need any specific information.

Looks like a great addition. We are running a very similar machine from SCM called a Cyflex F900. It is very fast and very flexible and yes, it is great for smaller and custom parts.

Other than machines, can you share step-by-step videos how to build a furniture using these machines (from cnc nesting flat table till finish product)…i love your videos, very useful and inspiring :))

Interesting comment on the power usage, we've found the same every time we put a machine in the electrician warns us that we might need a new switchboard and fuse at the road, but while running everything at full noise it never gets close

I love these videos and especially when you go into details about a machine I operate at centateq n-500 and I’d love to see a videos about that in some real real depth because there are no good in depth videos available online.

As previously mentioned about a previous video what I feel is better for small business the vertical CNC wins on space and practicality for component machining. When you get to really high production running more replicate or full unit production the nesting works. The essential part I found working from my first dual table to nesting was overloading the machine. You loose the speed and loose the benefit of the the machining capability you bought or moved to CNC in the first place. The next bit the the human part, all said and done the machine is only going to do what you as a machinist place in in the program and what you deign or build on your knowledge or experience. CNC thought out and planned to meet your production or design it can deliver and can improve quality of build of finished products thats it aim. The cost is prohibitive part and as start-up can be prohibitive, I would feel in practicality it is a progression step of a business already in production and developing and improving production or capability due to need and progress. To setup a Joinery business from start capable of solid and CNC panel production would be in the region of 350-500k includes waste, air along with material handling. Nesting or panel storage would mean more higher end machinery and adding to cost so can be anywhere up to 750k upwards and a production need or base to be practical would a start up be in that position.

I’d love to see on the horizontal cnc how you open a program and select a program and also how to change tools how to add new tools to machine how to take tools in and out machine all the real in depth things

Hi Tyler love the videos, I currently run the larger horizontal machine (bhx500) but am thinking about getting one of these for a different line because of the foot print. Stiles can give me a time study but I want to know real world times. What do you think processing time is for a side (wall, base, and tall) with a cut out for the toe.

So you are still using dowels and camlock joinery?

Awesome explanation. Thanks very much. I just watch your other video about your cnc history. For a small 3 - 4 man shop doing low volume but highly custom jobs. Would you recommend something like this with a sliding saw? or perhaps a flatbed cnc with drill block or C axis? or flatbed plus cnc dowel? Looking for the most versatile combo with budget in mind. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I work with this machine every day, and i fully recommend it for a small business. We have a setup that moves the workpiece out on the other side of the machine and another unit brings the board behind you. And there is a dowel add-on available with wood glue or water. You need special dowels for the water and they're not as strong as when they're glued.

I would like to hear about how you handle maintenance. Do your operators maintain, or do you have a dedicated maintenance crew? How to you schedule, monitor, and complete maintenance so it doesn’t disrupt production? Also other shop stuff like power, air, dust collection, are those maintained in house??
@lean-brothers
@lean-brothers Жыл бұрын
Historically we have had the operators do the maintenance. The machines keep track of maintenance and remind you when it is due. We are getting big enough that we have a guy that is in charge of it all now. It doesn’t keep him busy quite full time but I usually have projects for him. I’m the off time he helps the guys cut parts. We have enough redundancy that we can do most of the maintenance during the day. Anything major our guy will do during breaks, lunch, or come in early or stay late.

@@lean-brothers When i had my shop, I had a dedicated guy that had a service cart that handled any leaking air, tool issues and all machine maintenance. Great looking shop. once you get the employees to buy in to the process, it's a great thing. You started a lot like me and when you said you started with a Laguna I almost fell out of my chair. I also started with a Laguna, however, my experience was a bit of a nightmare. I gave up the shop many years ago after a fire in a neighboring suite and outsource everything now. I wish your shop was close to me as there aren't many options where I am located.

Because it has both sawing and routing capabilities does the machine allow for cutoffs and therefore handle waste?
@lean-brothers
@lean-brothers Жыл бұрын
You have to dust cut any waste that would be coming out of the machine.

Do you scan the barcode before you insert the piece with a hand held scanner or is the scanner in the machine?

you hiring operators ? :)

That is no5 correct about i5 being difficult to multi groove on the panel saw. A cnc Martin or Altendorf would eat that job. Harder work for the operator though. Mind you, quicker to set up on the saw.
