We had a great comment that made Daron have a question. So in this video we discuss that question, the difference between a nested based CNC and a pod and Rail CNC.

My company has both Nesting Vantage Comp3, 2 Large Holmza Beam saws and 6 Weeke Pod and Rails. We use the Nesting machine for one off items and items that don't require horizontal drilling or horizontal drilling after edgebanding. The Beam Saws with PNRs (Pod and Rails) are used for large batch runs where we are cutting and machining 100s or 1000s of the same part. PNR are also great with use of an aggerate. And to add if you are running Stiles' Saws or Nesting machines , Cutrite is a godsend. Great videos.

A Pod and Rail really shines with 5 axes, it can easily reach every side. Ideal for windows, doors and stairs. In contrast to Nesting it processes 1 piece at a time.

You can put vacuum pods on a nesting machine so you can work on the sides. Specially usefull for putting profiles on solid wood. CR Onsrud has a video on that.

Thanks for the content you guys are pumping out! I have subscribed. I am very curious. How many kitchens are you making a day with your current setup?
@lean-brothers

We have quite a diverse product mix. We can produce 2-3 homes a day depending on the specs.

@@lean-brothers thank you for your reply. With four cnc’s running I would imagine that you have other products than kitchen cabinets being put through, as I would think that the 4 cnc’s could produce way more than 2 or 3 homes per day. Unless the kitchens are massive 30 cabinets in size 😊 . I look forward to continue to learn from your videos 👍

How do you get enough sales to support such an operation? Whats your main sales channel? Do you have a sales team that you trained? Do you advertise?

We have really tried to diversify our sales. We have some large contractors doing homes, we bid commercial work, and store fixtures. This keeps us busy.

Hey. Even your nesting has probably capability to drill from the sides. Even on your machine you can use pods to do operations. I used to own beam saw and Rail and pods system 4axis CNC machine. If you dont have dowel driling and inserting machine it is easier to have rail and pods machine just for sake of side driling. even 3axis machines can dril from the sides at least for this bigger machine manufacturers. After I bought my frst nesting machine I sold my beam saw manly becouse i did not have enough space for both but if I culd I would keep my beam saw. It cuts much faster for pieces which dont need to be driled from top. I am doing manly batch one becouse i do manly restaurants and other public area shops. But I tend to cut 5-10 cupboards at the same time just for sake of better use of material. And then we batch one after edgebanding. And pods and rail system cnc is better for 5 axis machines if you do a lot of curved and 5axis simultanious operations becouse you have normaly mor Z travel than on nesting. I can do most of 5axis work on nesting but it vas a few times wher I needed more Z travel and I had to subcontract those parts. But manly on the end it is software for preparing programs which counts. I do a lot of 5axis so I bought few licenses of Solidworks and Swood and it makes my life so much easy, that i whish I would buy it when I bought my first 5axis nesting. You can see some of our work on our facebook facebook.com/profile.php?id=100030180865996 to get a feeling what is possible on CNC nesting machine.

Vertical is way faster than pod and rail. Set up time (moving the pods) is eliminated

Hi! I really enjoy your videos and the work you are doing. I run a small CNC and laser cutting business in Europe, creating unique home interior items. I was wondering if you would be interested in collaborating with me. I have some ideas on how it could work.

Does your CNC keep track of the hours on the cutter heads ,thanks .👍📐🇨🇦

It does keep track of hours that it processes. I’m not sure if specific to the head running.
