I think Kevin has better character development between Home Alone 1 and 2 than Harry Potter over the course of 8 movies. I mean, Harry goes through h**l 8 times and he never gets darker, wiser or cleverer?? Instead, it seems like Harry gets more naive and apathetic. Plus, Harry Potter is just a child and NO WIZARD MASTER can defeat him?. That doesnt make sense. In the course of two movies, we see Kevin get smarter and more mature. We see him grow an obsession with Christmas trees... after cutting down his own Christmas tree and seeing the face of his enemy while decorating it. Basically, the Christmas tree becomes Kevins best friend through his trauma. The writing of Kevins character is brilliant

The toy store is meant to be FAO Schwarz, which was across the street from the Plaza hotel on 5th Ave (so Kevin could’ve just walked there). However, the actual facade used in the film was a building in Chicago. The real FAO Schwarz did get used as a location for Big. FAO filed for bankruptcy twice in 2003 before temporarily shuttering the Fifth Avenue location in January 2004. In May 2009, Toys "R" Us Inc. acquired FAO Schwarz, but in 2015, it permanently closed the Fifth Avenue location.
@michaelceraso1977Ай бұрын
thats where FAO USED to be located ( a few short blocks east of PLAZA) but the producers didnt get permission to use their name, so they used a diff name and as you say a few scnes were filmed elsewhere- like that POOL with Kevin jumpin in as PLAZA has no pool for guests. They did use parts of cent park and the BUSTED UPplace wit all he fun tricks done by Kevin were also filmed elewhere.
@treetopjones737Ай бұрын
The busted up place would be a built set in a studio for the interiors.

10:21 for the longest time I thought this was the original version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and that Mariah Carey covered it on her Christmas album after this. It was literally a month ago that I realized they're actually two different songs entirely after I looked them up. This one is called "All Alone On Christmas". They have a very similar chord progression and vibe and at the end of the verse both songs sing "All I want for Christmas is you". Ever since I was a kid every time I'd hear the Mariah song on the radio and in malls I'd get mad that her version never had the sax solo that riffed the Jingle Bells melody at the end. I do like it much better than "All I Want For Christmas".

I just have to say how much I love Home Alone 2: Lost in New York! It's not just a repeat of the first movie; it's even better imo, with Kevin navigating the chaos of New York City while trying to avoid the “sticky bandits”. Tim Curry as the concierge is hilarious, and I love how Kevin grows by helping a children's charity instead of just defending his house. The traps he sets are even more inventive and funny

There are SO MANY memorable parts of this movie. "Harry, I've reached the top!" , "Wow, what a hole", the bricks to the forehead, and the skeleton scene are amazing. The first movie was great and I flip-flop all the time with which one I prefer, but I think I enjoy this one a bit more most of the time because it feels a little more believable. The bandits have a reason for going after Kevin this time and all I can think about with the first 1 is how absolutely horrible that local police department was and how they'd probably wind up with a lawsuit over how they handled the situation -- that's probably where the McCallisters got all of their money in the first place.

Flying in the 70's & 80's was different. Literally bought books of 10 tickets & if I wanted to go somewhere walked up to a gate tore out & gave them a ticket & got on the plane. Main counter & boarding pass was only needed if I had luggage. & Learned to travel carry-on only. Was in & out of major airports in 15 minutes. & As a child in the 60's flew state to state w/out parent or family member onboard & at a much younger age than Kevin is in these movies. The flight attendants babysat me on the flights. Which was normal for airlines at the time.

Ok, I lost the time stamp, but holy crap! You picked out Ally Sheedy (of Breakfast Club fame), and I, very familiar with her work, including her amazing role as Yang on Psych, took a close look at her behind the counter at the New York airport, and said, “Nah, that doesn’t look like her. Similar, kinda, I can see why they thought that, but that’s definitely not her teeth/mouth.” Big round of applause.

I just wanna point out Kevin in the first movie said to the woman in the supermarket he was 8 years old but in this movie he says to Mr Duncan he is 10 but he says before he gets on the plane "this happened to me last year and almost wrecked my Christmas" did we miss him being left in another movie?
@Sword_BoiАй бұрын
Macaulay Culkin was 10 when he played an 8 year old in the first movie, and 12 when he played Kevin in the second movie. I imagine his character's age was retconned because it would make him more believable. 12 year old Culkin would not be believable as a 9 year old, but could possibly pass for a 10 year old. And I guess they banked on people not remembering he was supposed to be only 8 in the first movie.

I love this movie so much, I always find funny that the movie paints Tim Curry's character as some sort of a villain, which when we were kids would actually work, but once adult we can see he is actually doing his job, his taking care of Kevin although he is very weird about it hahahahah

While most are overplaying songs like "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "Do They Know It's Christmas", "Wonderful Christmastime", etc... during the holidays, I prefer to play Christmas film scores. For the first two movies of this franchise, John Williams composed songs such as "Somewhere in My Memory", "Star of Bethlehem" (preferably the sequel version), "Christmas Star", & "Merry Christmas Merry Christmas" (plus Alan Menken contributed "My Christmas Tree", the song that Kevin's school choir sings). Alan Silvestri's score for The Polar Express is also fantastic w/ original songs such as "Believe", "When Christmas Comes to Town", & "Spirit of the Season". Then there's James Horner's "Where Are You, Christmas" from the live action Grinch movie, while "It's Christmas (All Over the World)" sung by Sheena Easton from Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) is very underrated.
