I grew up with the genesis version and I consider it a genesis must have game! This game was doing stuff that not many games were doing at the time like having a crafting system, an open world (as open as the genesis would allow anyways), and an expert mode that doubled as a randomizer mode! Pretty ahead of its time honestly and doesnt get the props that games like Goldeneye got for pushing FPS games on consoles. I wanna also touch on some comments you made about the game as well as giving a couple of tips for whoever would wanna try it: - The bandits go to random houses only on expert. On beginner they go to houses in a fixed order with the mansion always being the first. - Its not game over if you lose a single house, only if you lose them all BUT you can't get the best ending for each difficulty unless you save all the houses. - Items are randomized in expert while on beginner they will always be the same in every house. I think it also applys to the snowmen outside! - Speaking of items, there are items you can only find on expert. The camera, CD player, rope, flashbulb and battery. These items allow for weapons you cant make on beginner. Weapons that are pretty powerful too! The camera and the CD player are also 1 time spawn items meaning they spawn in 1 random house 1 time and that's it. Considering they make amazing weapons, its worth it when you finally do find them. - Last thing on items. The snowmen outside will give you ammo, tires and sled charge while items in houses will give you ammo, platform and operator items. This makes expert a lot harder since items are randomized but once you get good platform and operator items, you should be good! - Holding up and jump makes you jump higher and that is required for getting into the attic in the old house and the top of dresser in the attic of the country house with the tires. You gain the most height from them with this method. - Weapons have different damage and stun times. I don't want to spoil it all so experiment! - The bandits loot faster when your not in the house with them so get to them ASAP when that loot meter shows up outside! - Trap the old house first. It is by far the hardest hard to protect in the game thanks to the holes that can be made by you or the bandits. Any extra damage you can do in that house helps a ton. - When you scare away the bandits from a house, do a snowman run to get ammo and charge for the sled. On expert you have barely enough time to hit them all! Thanks for this huge review of all the games but ya the genesis one resonates with me since I only had this game and like a handful of others growing up in the 90s.

Totally agree about the Genesis game; it's shockingly complex for a game of the era, especially with all the other licensed slop coming out. 100 percent an essential Genesis title.

I have Home Alone 1 and 2 on SNES. I actually really enjoyed the first Home Alone game. Sure it did get repetitive, but WAY better than Home Alone 2 on SNES for sure. I will need to pick up the Genesis version eventually it does look amazing and a lot of fun. Great video! Merry Christmas. ^_^

I've only played the NES and SNES games back in the days and they were...good rentals. I never seen the SMS game before.

Cool video on the Home Alone games. Sega Genesis is my favorite. The only pne mistake in the video is that you kept saying that "Home Alone" came out in 1991. It came out 1990. No worries.

I had Home Alone 2 for NES. And it was that "now it's yours, you can either play it or not" type of deal. So I played it. A lot. I actually became pretty efficient in beating it. It's pretty ugly graphically, but once you get into it, it has a weird hypnotic appeal that drive you to go further. With that being said, if I wouldn't have a history with it and played today for a first time, I wouldn't give it a time of a day. I also bought Genesis version of Home Alone 2 from a bargain bin... I can understand your hesitation in playing all versions of HA2.

Yeah I didn't cover the sequel games 'cause they're really not enjoyable from the bits and pieces I've played... but maybe they'll get covered in the future.

There was also a Game Boy and Game Gear version with the Game Gear seeming to be more like the Genesis version than the Master System.. and randomly a PAL exclusive PS2 Home Alone game, which should never see the light of day.

As far as I can tell, the Game Boy version is just the SNES version watered down, so it would probably fall in a similar spot to that one; not awful, but not great either.
