I'm off-grid here in Finland. I have a 60kWh LiFePO4 DIY battery, which I'll expand to 100kWh this year. Cost: less than 100 Euro per kWh nowadays, including the BMS, etc.

Not all batteries are able to provide power to the house during a power cut. Certainly here in the UK the majority sold will turn off during an outage to prevent backfeeding. Those, such as the Tesla Powerwall, will automatically switch over but explaining this when purchasing a new system often gets skipped over.

Tesla’s batteries are very cool, this should be a global consensus. But what Musk prefers is to directly build a new energy housing product that can be taken to Mars. This will have a disruptive future. And according to the description in his autobiography, Musk is not very interested in photovoltaic rooftop energy storage systems that currently rely heavily on installers, unless one day it can achieve rapid batch operation. Maybe you will be interested in another emerging energy storage brand, Sigenergy. It should be the new market leader, but it requires pioneer-minded people like you to pay the bill first.

Hi Katharina, thanks for your sharing, that's very true about the cost issue. I like Musk a lot, even after finish reading his autobiography, and we all agree that Tesla has become synonymous with "cool" mainly because of Musk. But if we really want to realize the popularization of clean energy, reducing costs and increasing efficiency in the integrated supply chain is the key. This is also what we are trying to do now.

No-one can tell me the life span of these batteries. Best left alone.

Good point. May industry professionals also say that they have to be in the market longer in order to tell. There are lab tests that simulate degradation over many years, though. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. 🙏 Katha

Home batteries should always add value. Sell as much surplus energy to the grid, for added household wealth.

I have a diy solar and home battery bank. I do not export to the grid. Instead I manually shift loads depending on how much energy I am producing, great video on a very interesting and important topic 😊

Hi, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Do you have a calculation or a rationale? Thanks!
@SupremeRuleroftheWorld
@SupremeRuleroftheWorld 11 ай бұрын
@@NetZeroTech the rationale is my wallet. there is no ROI on this for the vast amount of people living paycheck to paycheck. if you want to save money you are better off installing a heat pump.
@bunnywarren
@bunnywarren 11 ай бұрын
@@SupremeRuleroftheWorld When I did the maths for a battery it came in as beneficial, since the amount I get paid for exporting is much higher than is normally the case and the same as I pay overnight for importing. I worked out an ROI of about 7-8 years. This was further decreased by the ability to earn additional money by exporting during periods of high grid demand where an additional price is paid. I've yet to see a heatpump system that would cost less than using gas here in the UK. They offer a COP of about 3 or lower over the year. Given electricity is more than three times the cost of gas it just doesn't make sense, especially given the signficiant up-front cost.
@SupremeRuleroftheWorld
@SupremeRuleroftheWorld 11 ай бұрын
@@bunnywarren the UK system is skewed. gas prices are propped up by the goverment making it artificially too cheap. belgium does the same thing and now its litteraly cheaper to run your own gas powerd generator to make electricity. that is not sustainable for the goverment. and for the record: heat pump can do a COP of 5 or more without breaking a sweat. i insteed one in the summer and that system is running at a COP between 6 and 7. and a heat pump is vastly cheaper than a battery. you can buy them for well under 4k. you need to get your information from actual heat pump people and not gas boiler people doing heat pumps as a side buisness. the onyl reason why a battery works is on the gamble that the current system and pricing stays like it is. that is simply not happening.
