It seems that, five years later, this video gets recommended by KZbin to the entire homebrew community. :D

Man, the messes I've made while brewing. Nothing beats the ol' trub-clogged airlock on a five gallon bucket though. Had one do that and I was awakened at 2 in the morning to what sounded like a shotgun going off. Checked the closet and it looked like someone had detonated 5 gallons of beer and trub over every square inch on my closet. And you're very right....the wife is NEVER happy about these situations.
@Mrcloc3 жыл бұрын
I've had some vigorous brews recently. I just leave the airlock and bung off with a jug over the top. I think I lost 1 - 2 litres of beer to kraussen overflow. The airlock kept popping, and the pets were really interested, but the house smelled of beer. Anyway, they both turned out really fantastic.

I added sugar to a growler I thought was finished fermenting then waited about 2 months it didn’t burst out like that but the amount of co2 that was released made me shocked it didn’t explode.

@Fabianwew3 жыл бұрын
@@joshuapinter They're meant for transportation and serving from kegs, but I don't know why you wouldn't condition in them if they're made for pressure. I have some steel growlers that can do more pressure than any glass I have.

You can, you just scale the sugar differently, same as if you were conditioning a keg with sugar.

Can anyone drop me some advice ref the above please, I’ve done an ipa but I’m sure I’ve over primed it, it’s been bottled for 7 days now and I opened one last night for a test and it didn’t volcano out but it fizzed just enough so a small bit of foam breached the top. I opened another and it did the same. Will this progress any worse and potentially cause bottle bombs or is it just a bit over primed? (I didn’t lose any beer due to gushing and it tastes great) thanks all!
@rasmus63523 жыл бұрын
It probably wasn't done fermenting in the first place. And with the extra priming sugar, there was just to much to ferment. Be really sure your beer is fully fermented in your primary bucket or whatever you use. It will probably get worse, or the same. But unfortunaly, it will not get better.
@tremblayalex89153 жыл бұрын
@@rasmus6352 thanks for replying! I did wonder but it was in the primary fermenter for 2 weeks and the FG was unmoved for the last 4 days. Think I’ll get as much as I can in the fridge on Friday night and have a session on it this weekend haha, oh well, it’s an excuse to get another brew going!
@rasmus63523 жыл бұрын
@@tremblayalex8915 oh okay, yeah the fermentation should be done in under two weeks. Maybe you added too much priming sugar? Try to chill them at the lowest temp you can, the "foaminess" will reduce if it's really cold. Anyhow, cheers and enjoy your beer dude!

If it haven't happened at least once to you, then you're not a total home brewer. I normally had this problems with the hard seltzer, but with the beers I have it controlled yet.
@joshuapinter3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Just be more patient and this doesn't have to happen. It's not a right of passage, just a admission of impatience. That being said, I, too, have done this. But worse. Exploding glass everywhere. Won't make that mistake again.

Wow you wasted all that good beer. I open them very slowly and if the foam starts rising put it upside-down over a glass. Sqirt some into the glass than turn back up and release more co, then repeat till no more pressure. I do it all the time it only takes one minute to open and drink. Wear safety glasses and gloves if you want, is better than wasting beer.
