I couldn't agree more. As with many people who have genuine talent, he doesn't brag. Soft spoken, easygoing, and let's his work speak for itself.

Unfortunately Randall, my neighbor who built this little engine, has passed away. We, the Harley community, have lost a master. His skills at machining, his love for all things Harley, and his friendship will be greatly missed.

Delighted to see this, and greatly saddened to learn of Randall’s passing. A good contribution to his legacy would be publication or posting of all surviving materials related to his build: those AutoCad drawings mentioned, back of the envelope sketches no matter how crude, anything to provide snippets of insight to his thoughts and methods. I hope that somebody close to him can take on such a task.

I have never understood how some engines sound like they are struggling to just stay running while idling and sound so good when they are throttled up. Kind of like the old Johnny popper motors, they sound like they are going to die at any moment and then they spring to life. This is a very beautiful machine, thanks for the video.
@kyle89525 жыл бұрын
Usually because they're tuned for high rpm at the expense of idle, they can't breathe well when running slowly. Other times its to do with the number of cylinders and the chosen crank angle, makes them run unevenly, where you get the cylinders all firing close together and then a big gap between the last one and the first time. Sometimes its both of these things.
@rogerstolt44116 жыл бұрын
I'd like to have that motor in my 56 hummer! Twice the cylinders ,twice the power! And twice the fun. Nice job on the engineering, sounds like runs great...it sound s like a full grown harley!

@FireDropTechnologies I keep to paved roads mostly. The bearings are all pretty well shielded. May well get some piston/cylinder scoring eventually, but no sign of that yet. The old hit-and-miss engines ran for years on end with open cranks and all,,,

Mateusz Mittek old harley from the 30's had a dry sump..no pool of oil..you squirted in a little as you went with a hand pump in,the tank.. I'm building a vld engine and going to recirculate mine but older engines had brass bearings and total loss oil systems.. so did steam engines with open cranks..this was genious though RIP a brilliant man..hope he passed on the knowledge..
