Cracking set of plans! I purchased them a few weeks ago. Just slowly collecting the components together now. Nice little project for my spare time. As I say to the wife," I do it when I get a chance." :-) :-)

Nicest I’ve seen. Would love to have it though I probably couldn’t pull it off. Great job. Thank you for showing us

This is a beautiful machine. Can you share with with me your design to make a similar one. Is it PLC control?

Hi Ryan, this is a really great project and you have done an awesome job, movement is good an steady and the finish is a credit to you. Ryan any chance you could put some more up on the earthing as I see you have a braided strap against the drive shaft and I am guessing that is your earthing. Since you have been using it have you had any problems with bearing arcing? Did you seek any help sourcing the right electronics for the project, I am good mechanically and electrically no good and I reckon I wouldn't be the only one watching who is that way. Many thanks, Gordon, Australia

Yes, the ground strap is a braided strap that I got from McMaster. It is looped over the spindle and tensioned with a spring. I keep my weld ground close to it and I keep the spindle clean (no dirt or paint). No issues with the bearings so far. As for the electronics, I'm better mechanically as well but I like a good challenge. It took me a little while to figure things out but I eventually got it. Lots of reading and trial and error. Thanks for watching.

Nice project but be careful, Arduinos can become nearly addictive! I used one to drive a stepper motor for a star tracking camera mount and found myself building all sorts of other things after that was completed... just what I need, another hobby ! Ha

Haha. You are correct. I had an Arduino control cnc router. It worked pretty good. They are pretty cool and I've seen people make some very interesting things with them.

How do you ensure that there is no current running through the motor as well the grounding strap ? Some has to leak through.

hello,how did you protect arduino from tig noise?
@dozerbuilder01477 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I didn't do anything. I didn't use shielded cable. I did mount everything in a metal enclosure and kept it and the motor separate from the welding ground circuit. I use a Miller Diversion 165 tig welder (high frequency) and a Thermal Dynamics Dynapak 4Xi (also a high frequency machine). I've been working on a new video showing me tig welding (both ac and dc) as well as plasma cutting while using the positioner. I did have a problem in the beginning with the lcd display getting scrambled but it was a problem with my house wiring. Even then, it still functioned properly while welding or cutting. I just had to turn it off then back on to reset the display. Let me know if that answers your question.

What is the speed of your turntable?
@dozerbuilder01477 жыл бұрын
Top speed is 10rpm but it can be configured differently in the software code. It could go faster if needed.

Did you thread the end of the pipe for the chuck to thread onto?
@dozerbuilder01475 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't been getting notifications about comments. The end is threaded. 2-1/4-8tpi. The same also older Southbend, Sheldon and other lathes of that era.
