I like your matter of fact informative videos. After researching the build of my home theatre and settling on equipment, speakers etc the architecture/design of the room is where I spent most of my thinking. Once that was nailed down I went back to the equipment list and made changes........and so went on the back and forth balancing act. Where I landed and where my head is at is very similar to the way you guys go about building your cinemas. Very well thought out and well built. Your clients are the winners! Well done.

Couple quick thoughts: 1. This is a well done video; thoughtful commentary and appreciate the attention to detail, for the folks out there that are anal about the little things you guys take care of that VERY well 2. This is a badass room, flat out 3. You guys need to put out more content, more frequently!!

Really great tour, it would be interesting to know how much it cost for the conversion from effectively a garage to the cinema. Ok, it’s a very minor aspect but I really like the black sound absorption panel at the back of the room, it’s very geometric which I really like and it’s surprisingly affordable stuff.

Thats a very broad question hence our multiple videos on room design and room decision implications. We have done rooms from $20,000 to $500,000 in just equipment costs so that is entirely up to you.

Hello. Are Procella speakers your preferred speaker manufacturer in general, or in this case simply fit the room and budget? I've heard great things about Krix's MX range, and thought these may have been a nice addition to this room. (I haven't done my homework, so apologies if they are not comparable)

Nice system, Yes I spotted several entendres too. But how “outbacky” are they coz my question would be on what internet they had satellite, mobile network or copper adsl? Could run a local server with a 4K ATV and control 4 otherwise could take a while to stream.

@Stevo19801 A couple of years ago I did a bunch of research to find a good acoustically transparent material to build my own absorption panels (looked overseas and locally). I centred on using Rim Fabrics Trilogy 1 fabric. I believe the panels in the video are using the same fabric in the "Wine 126" colour (the colour I chose). The material is not stretchy but is very strong (280gsm, 1mm gauge, 1.88m width), so I put a bit of muscle into wrapping the frame to get them tight. If you contact the distributor in Victoria (Innova) and ask them for a sample they will send you out a card with all the fabric colours glued to a cardboard fold out. Great people to deal with! In case your interested the frame I made using plain Pine DAR 66mm x 19mm and then used Martini (CSR) HD Absorb 50mm Polyester for the insides. I have 2m x 1.2m panels on parts of the wall and 1.8m x 1.2m panels on parts of the ceiling (and the fabric is holding shape). Im very happy with the outcome. Having said all of this, don't underestimate the work that goes into building them properly and getting them right. I wish I had known about @Home Theatre Engineering making these a while back so I could have asked them for a quote. Hope this helps you out.

If we had of had an option we would have but we don’t always have that level of control. It was already specified and the client was not going to change it for a range of reasons.
@vagomaniac
@vagomaniac 3 жыл бұрын
Nice pro video. Your client has made some overkill choices. The front row is too close to the screen wich is too big ... This is a matter of personal preference of course but the facts are that u loose part of the film this way. Photography goes for a walk and u miss various details. I would keep two rows, dress the walls with dark grey acoustic fabric (for more flexible panel placement) and get a JVC N7. The audio is good enough, so without increasing budget the experience is enhanced.
@HomeTheatreEngineering
@HomeTheatreEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the comment but what you would do is what would be done in your cinema room. The client made these specific choices for reasons. The panel colours continues the theme of the massive home compound and looked totally in place. The front row was requested to take on overflow for kids and was not designed to be at reference however reference was achieved with the other rows. The screen is definitely not too big, on what have you based that? It is well within the width height and angle requirements for both THX and ISF standards. Why N7 ? The BenQ x12000H was exactly what we wanted for lumen output, throw ratio and it’s stunning RGBCMY luminance performance and was a great match with the acoustically transparent screens weave. The audio performance was actually pretty spectacular, personally I would have said it definitely exceeds “good enough” and the Procellas punched above their weight. Having personally calibrated this room myself I can safely say it’s one of the better rooms I have seen. And the client has Pre wired for a higher speaker channel count one day. So no, no overkill choices everything very deliberate and is there for a reason. Our clients reasons.

@@HomeTheatreEngineering As I said it’s a matter of personal preference. But the front row is definitely too close to the screen and I don’t care what your client wants. Obviously you don’t appreciate all comments, just the ones that say mmmm everything is perfect.
@HomeTheatreEngineering
@HomeTheatreEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
@@vagomaniac No that’s not the case at all. We do welcome comments. The issue is people considering our the clients brief and personal preferences and requests or making comment on information they don’t have or a lack of knowledge or understanding but claiming theirs as fact. If you read my reply properly you would realise that we acknowledge the front row is a bit close but it is there at the clients request. However out of curiosity I went back to our 3D model of the room and measured the viewing angle and it turns out the front seats are only 2 degrees outside of the older standards for viewing arc for UHD images. Currently industry standards for UHD projected images are being reworked by ISF and other organisations. I am involved in that. Given that humans have a 210 deg horizontal field of view and taking into account pixel size and the fact that the front seats have a total field of view of 62 degrees those seats actually work surprising well. The greater issue is not so much horizontal width but height where an upward viewing angle exceeding 15 degrees can become uncomfortable. So in short yes I appreciate your comments but they are based on what you want and believe and not on our clients requests for this room nor with knowledge of the dimensions nor the standards applied to the design. If you can ever get here we would invite you to come and see this room sit in the front row and see for yourself I think you would be rather surprised.

in designing a HT room properly people have to get past relying on marketing and the specs. Or what they believe they want in their dream HT room. There's actually an optimal number of seats/rows. Assuming you're using a preamp or AVR that comes with the standard number of channels. In which case there shouldn't be more than 2 rows and maybe no more than 4 seats per row depending on the width of the room. Also...I'm noticing most people skip over one VErY important aspect of custom HT room design....and that's SOUND SUPPRESSING. You can't "sound PROOF" a room 100. Most focus their budget on the electronics. Starting from there. When the order of importance should be--sound suppression (allowing the user to use the HT room any time at reference level volume...and not worry about waking the baby in the house or neighbours). #2--in-room acoustic treatment/decor (no hard surfaces #3 electronics lastly the seating. Pointless spending 3/4 of our budget on electronics if we can only listen to audio at 1/4 volume....worrying about getting noise complaints from family/neighbours. Too many may design their HT rooms as something to show off during gatherings. Parties. insisting on having 4 rows 5 seats wide...using 'standard electronics" (standard number of channels)...it IS possible to get a preamp that will give us 6 side-surround channels ...requiring more than 13.2 channels. Maybe 17.2 :) Possibly turning it into a 19.2? having 6-8 side-surround speakers?? Assuming we have that room size. :) So much is ignored.
@HomeTheatreEngineering

All good comments. These and more are the discussions we have with our clients. You are spot on by talking about the optimal number of seats though often clients want more to accomodate guest overflow so we are careful to discuss this with them. As you say “sound suppression” is a consideration but it is costly so we are careful to find out who if anyone will be impacted if the room is being used so that investment is properly allocated. No point suppressing a room needlessly for a cost of $30,000 for example if not needed. This room was an example of this. He originally wanted to “sound proof” the room totally which was actually going to cost more than the cinema itself but it is a room totally remote from any other, a long way from other bedrooms or social spaces in an outdoor compound distance alone managed a great deal of this. This allowed him to have better picture and sound as his budget was not massive. We work extremely hard to develop great sound in every seat. As Gerry Lemay of the HAA would say, we concentrate on the “sweet triangle”. Thanks so much for commenting. Much appreciated.

@@seemovielove3597 Hi we are aware of this technology but it’s not a projector and again there is no source material so everything needs to be upscaled. Also emissive displays are very different from reflective displays so for many reasons this is not yet a good (or cost effective) solution. Resolution is actually the 5th least important factor in image reproduction. (According to ISF). In terms of visual acuity 4K is absolutely enough for a screen this size. We would much rather have an accurate 4K image over an inaccurate 8k with scaling artefacts etc etc. This is a much greater discussion than we can cover here though.
@dreamav8161
@dreamav8161 4 жыл бұрын
You can already do 16k with 4 projectors from Barco Residential seamlessly if you wanted to...but why? The idea here is for split screening not 1 single screen image. As HTE says, the scaling etc. is huge and costly. For people that want multiple images up on one screen it works well. For a cinema if any kind...not logical to use. Too many people get caught up in marketing spiel from companies to dictate what they want. That's like me buying a car because the company says it has huge power, most in the market and that's the most important thing. However what I missed is that the there is loss of 50% of that power as other parts aren't up to spec, and drifts to the left when driving due to design fault as they focussed purely on power. So overall, it's not up to scratch. Even worse is the car that I'm told the racing stripes make it go faster...and I fall for that. Unfortunately marketing is designed to direct you away from what a product does not do well and often over emphasising one or two features to make you think you need it regardless. Trust your Home Cinema specialist and get a good one. If they don't draw up properly detailed and analysed plans (anyone can draw a fancy diagram)...go find someone who will. You can't build a solid home without engineered plans...same for Home Cinema.

No content even if it were viable. In any case the reality is simply if you can't notice/perceive the pixels at your viewing distance and screen size.....you're doing ok, then as HTE mentioned on a couple of comments dial it in to get an accurate image with the right level of brightness et al.
