Oh Stacey, I'm so sorry to hear that. Those poor plants. I'm sure it has alot to do with labor shortages throughout the country. Sometimes it's hard to fill those positions with employees who understand plants. One day, when I'm able to retire, I hope to be able to work at a garden center. Watering and talking plants all day long! Dreamy!!

Love how detailed you are with the plant stats! It's so important to read garden tags because box stores don't always sell what will winter over in your zone. I see that in Minnesota, zone 4, every single year.

Thank you so much! and I agree! I've seen gardenias in my garden centers and I know they aren't hardy here. Very important to be aware. We don't want to waste our money and efforts planting things that may not thrive.

I’ve been frequenting the Home Depot that isn’t as close as the one I’m used to going to and I gotta tell you, their stock is substandard. Every week I’m waiting for a selection like what I see when STEPH goes to HER Home Depot and every week I’m disappointed. So, I’m done with that HD and I’ll head over to the other one and it’s near a Walmart (every year, no fail great selection and decent prices).

I just stopped by Walmart yesterday on my way home from work after seeing your Walmart spring video the other day. Not as well stocked as your video but I expected that. Their prices were good compared to other big box stores. But now after watching your Home Depot video there's always room for more! Plus the sunny weekend is motivation after the long week of cold and rain, rain rain. But it did make everything gorgeous.

Hi Jolie! They do a wonderful job at my home depot. We are very lucky to have both great inventory and plants that get taken care of even though the hot summers. I’m closer to lowes than Home Depot but still love watching these videos from you. I’m sooo jealous of your store’s inventory though. My Walmart has a super small plant area, same with Home Depot so I don’t usually go there. Lowes is the closest and best for me.
@HookedandRooted

Hi there! I visit all 3 stores pretty regularly. Mostly HD and Lowes, and then a few trips to Walmart. I will be heading to Lowes soon, so stay tuned. I enjoy all 3 and find that they all have different things at different times. Always fun to pop in and see whats new. I have about 3 lowes, 3 HD, and 3 Walmart all within 15-20 min of me, so I'm pretty lucky in that respect. But I understand that not everyone has them close, or that there store carries as much inventory. Thanks for watching.

Hi Bonny! While these weren't advertised as climbers, and didn't have any trellising indicating such, they do have a trailing/climbing habit. So if they have something you can train them up, they can climb and be trained since they have tendrils.

Steph, I feel the same way about the dianthus I planted 4 years ago. I dislike getting down on my concrete sidewalk to take a scissors to them JUST so they bloom. I have the short blue foilage and pink flowers. I am ready for different but just don't know what to get. I am needing some blue folage and perhaps pink flowers. What do you recommend that may work. Any feedback from anyone is welcome for sure........thanks!

Hi Jackie! Yes, the dianthus deadheading wasn't my favorite. I ended up replacing mine with nepeta/catmint. Which I love! A great blue/grey foliage plant you could try, the helen von stein lambs ear. There are no flowers to have to deadhead, and a pretty clump of foliage 😊

Steph, The depladenia and mandevillas can either go by a window in winter where they will keep blooming until about December or in the garage where they will enter dormancy. A haircut and plant food in the spring and off they go. I’m sad that they get treated as annuals. They are great, hardy shrubs.
@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hi Jacquie, Thank you so much for sharing. I did try overwintering them one year. What I found was that they took quite some time to get going again the following year. I did just buy a few to do my summer containers. I may try overwintering them again this year, see how it goes. Thanks for your comment.

@@HookedandRooted thank you for your response. I live in Southern Vermont and our nights haven’t been consistently over 35 degrees so I still have them inside. Enjoy them.

@Jacquie Castro I love that 🌱 I try my best to also garden on a budget. This year, I did treat myself to a few mandavilla because I find them so easy care. I'm totally with you on spending on perennials > annuals, though. Brazil, are you Portuguese/Brazilian? The last name seems so. I am Portuguese.
@jacquiecastro7993
@jacquiecastro7993 Жыл бұрын
@@HookedandRooted No, not Portuguese. I was born in Dominican Republic and raised till 12 on a mountain top little town on a farm. I was a teenager in New York and went to Binghamton University. I met my husband who is Argentinian in NYC and we lived in a small apartment in the Riverdale neighborhood in the Bronx for years. Just before the pandemic my husband retired and off we went to Florida. My kid was 12 starting high school. We hated it! Moved to Vernon, VT. We love it here and my kid will start UVM in the fall. Before and after the kiddo we travelled to Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay as well as to DR. Several times. My husband has many friends in South America and a very close friend in Brazil. I love it there.
