If you've replaced the tubes on a florescent light and it still doesnt work it could be the ballast

Seems like he has good information, but sadly the music is too loud that I can't clearly hear what he's saying. Why loud clown music was necessary for an instructional video to troubleshoot florescent light fixtures is beyond me.

Hi Drew, love your channel! I recently bypassed my ballast and switched to LED. I have a 2 bulb kitchen light and only one side is working. Could it have something to do with the tombstone?

Hey Kathleen, Just buy a new led light that takes led bulbs. Its the best way! I had a similar issue with trying to upgrade a ballast to led. Its really complocated and you actually need a separate lower wattage ballast from what i understand. I didn't have any luck its like there's too much power for the low wattage bulbs. From what I understand a ballast is like a transfomer that charges up and makes more power for the florescent tubes that are 20 to 80 watts each tube. But the gas needs alot of energy to light up. Ive found the best solution is to actually just buy a brand new light for $50 to $75 at home depot or lowes that holds led bulbs. Theres 2 kinds theres one that takes led tube an bulbs never replace and one thats permanent. I reccomend the one that takes led tubes. So you can replace them. Sorry about the loud lame music ha ha I was trying something new and the volume was too high. Llease mash the subscribe button and hot the bell for notifications

You won't believe how.much energy you'll save by replacing the light and using led tubes. One tube is 17-19 watts vs 80 watts.

Absolutely, I love the new led bulb kitchen light we installed. Its a 2 person job for sure though. You need to anchor the new light into the drywall with the butterfly wing nuts and bolts. Make sure you use a electric tester to make sure the power is off. -cheers

I installed new bulbs. They worked for a few days. Now they barely light at all and the ends are black. However, every once in a while, they light up all the way and then fail to do so the next time I turn the switch on. Any idea what happened here? Could I have installed them incorrectly? Or could it just be a matter of dirty connectors?

I think you probably have a bad ballast like in the video. The ballast controls the voltage to the light bulbs. Its bit worth replacing the ballast. I would just have a new light installed. Thanks for watching please subscribe!!

@@drewsquickfix lol i never actually noticed one or two ballast while changing lights. I've only been changing the screw on type bulbs, and that may have a ballast, too. This is actually good to know for future reference. Thanks!

The ballast is under the metal cover wiyh all the electrical wiring so you dont see it when changing out the bulbs. If a ballast goes it's not worth replacing it. Just get a new florescent light with led bulbs. They use 17 watts per bulb vs 40 watts per bulb.

Also if you change a screw in light bulb buy an led bulb for like $6. It will pay for itself in energy over one year. Compact florescent bulbs are usually 13 watts led bulbs are like 4-8 watts

No Stephen I didnt. The point of the video was to show what the problem so you can decide to get a new light vs buying multiple lightbulbs . This light was up way too high and I did not plan on fixing the issue in the video. Tha ks for watching. I sure you can lookup how to replace a ballast

@@markrightmyer8750 I can't once it's on KZbin it stays on KZbin. Sorry about the music. Yes I RECCOMEND replacing florescent lights with led lights much more efficent. You can use permanent led lights or special lights that take led tubes. Led tubes don't always work on older florescent light fixtures
