Good video. Very helpful. My dog suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and my husband started CPR on him....successfully. I am linking my blog to this video. Hopefully it can help others and emphasize the importance of knowing CPR for dogs.

"ABC" is correct. Red Cross also teaches ABC. Checking Airways, then check for breathing and then compressions. In that order.

The only thing he forgot to add while doing CPR is to not LEAN on the animal. Make sure after each compression the chest rising back to the normal size. If you are doing cpr and it’s staying at the size of when you are doing the compression, it’s not allowing for full circulation.

Same here My 6 year old Doxie got either a stroke/heart attack he was layindown i did not know what to do he had his tounge out i heard him trying to breath slowy Now i feel i coulda saved his life by knowing how to do CPR in dogs or humans i made a mistake i shoulda not panic instead i shoulda talk to him in calm manner and try cpr to my best ability i shoulda try everything i could once i saw him not breating i thougt that was it he die i shoulda keept trying . i have seen videos of people doing CPR on larges dog and after like 6 minutes they lucky come back and start breating and have a pulse it's my fault for not knowing CPR my dog did not get oxygen and die due to no oxygen in Lungs or brain which makes the blood flow stop I will always feel it was my mistake not knowing how to do CPR at all i coulda saved him

Aw I’m so sorry. The truth is, even with CPR done correctly most people and animals don’t make it, or make it out with good outcomes. It’s good to know and to try but it’s very possible nothing could have been done. You gave him a great life, that’s what matters ❤

This guy knows his stuff. He used the hairless model so the viewer could see all the details. Unless this was a VERY, VERY unlikely accident or coincidence, this guy also knows how to TEACH his stuff!!! Unfortunately, this is rarity nowadays, with schools from toddler to post-graduate just stuffing facts (or lies) into the student's head rather than teaching them how to think. Obviously if you cannot think your stuff, you cannot extrapolate it to teaching it (or doing much of anything else with it).

Would you consider a jack Russell to be a small dog?

Yes, definitely a jack russel is a small dog.. small dogs & cats are done the same way with the one hand

@@ktown604 that is a pretty big jack Russell being that size, are they mixed with a larger dog breed??.. but if they are that big you could use 1or 2 hands applying the appropriate pressure for compressions of 1/3 of the chest size.. lets hope never have to though.

@@joannegarvin7830 I wish I could post a pic in the comments. They are pure from a very reputable breeder. 2 Brothers, about 22-25lbs. I notice they have longer legs than most I see on the internet. And yes I hope I never have to but I like to be well educated just incase or if I have the knowledge to help someone else's dog when in need as I bet alot of people don't know how or even thought about it. Lol and well were on the topic of helping dogs...... if I see your dog in the car in this heat I'm breaking your window (not you specifically). Seen a post of 5 different dogs in vehicles the last week made me so angry.

@@ktown604 ah, ok, yeh if hand cant wrap around chest & cant push enough with 1 hand then on the side.. & yes i agree, always want to be prepared in an emergency, i done a pet first aid course the other month just to have more knowledge on things i wasnt 100% on. Most went hand in hand with human first aid, just a few differences.. & it wasnt my dog, it was another lady's dog (a whippet) at dog park collapsed yesterday i had to do this on, unfortunately by the time i heard at the other end on the park, they had done cpr it wrong (by what a witness later told me how they done it) & he was already gone, so i just was trying to find any sign of life in him. So you never know. Also if they are breathing but unresponsive.. lay them on their right side, & make sure airway is clear & pull touge out, keep head straight so airway isnt bent, also face pointing downhill if on a slope so if the vomit it goes with gravity down & out. That is the recovery position. If the do stop breathing they are already in a position to give cpr (heart being on left side like people) that was something not said in this video... hope this helps

@ederadee
@ederadee 4 жыл бұрын
Just keep doing it, not stopping, until you get results (or until you can't do it anymore.) It's important to do CPR for as long as possible on an animal or person who is not breathing

this is good..but it has to be "cab" compressions, airway, breathing...just like humans. start with feeling for a pulse if you want..then do 30 compressions and 2 breaths mouth to snout then repeat.

You cant do breaths or compressions with a blocked airway. It has to be checked & cleared first & open for breaths in to work.
