It was something special the way the LHOTP portrayed Laura and Almanzo when they first met. A young girl's crush that would be a dream come true. It was sweet and innocent. A wonderful time. A great series.

it was terrible at the beginning. Im watching it now and not only is the chemistry off, but it makes no sense. He also acts like a total control freak and its unrealistic because the way she was raised Charles would never allow him to date her. It also makes charles look a lot weaker

Happy 50th anniversary to Little House: Such an important show that is part of many or our lives. Both Dean and Melissa look marvelous. I had the pleasure of working briefly in musical theatre with Dean and have met most of the cast. Dean directed/hosted a very insightful documentary on on Little House, and several of my friends and family went to school with Dean's wife in Laguna. Great to watch these interviews.

Katie O Reilly yeah they make g rated movies on Hallmark, but unfortunately, the reason family shows aren’t made is because of money. They play Pretty Woman on cable, rate it pg-13, and how many 13-17 year old girls know what she did for a living? The ending is fine for a fairly tale movie, but other than the skinny Marie scene, it’s treated like Julia Roberts character is this poor orphan or something, why not have Roberts character go through reality?

Ah yes, the innocence of having a grown man give a teenage girl her "first kiss" on camera. after clearly expressing it made her uncomfortable. Glad that shit would be illegal now. Respectability was a cover for a lot of immorality in that day (and today).

I still watch LHOTP reruns all the time on DISH . . . when it ends on one channel for the day I switch to another channel and watch another four hours of LHOTP! . . . The cast is SO amazing . . . Michael Landon (God rest his soul) was the PERFECT Dad in my eyes! Matthew L. was the perfect Son. I so loved LHOTP for the loyalty shown through the Ingall's Family! And, Katie O'Reilly . . . I so agree with you when it comes to getting stuck with the shows that we have today . . . the filthy language, sex, fighting . . . todays shows show no morals whatsoever . . . and some people wonder WHY todays Children are the way they are? What went wrong with the Children of today was when they took the spanking rule away . . . . tsk tsk tsk! WHAT A SHAME!
@MargrietS2 жыл бұрын
Spanking children is nothing else than using violence against children. It shows the inability of parents to make children do what they think they should do in that moment in the time. And then you end up in a power struggle. And if you are a parent, and you are afraid you lose the power struggle, you use violence. So you win short-term. But you loose in the long-term. Because the child will shut down his feelings from you, perhaps not all of them, but part of it has to shut down. And that’s a shame. I think communication is the key. If children don’t listen, there is always a reason. So please just sit down with them, just talk. And especially, Just listen and listen. And you can disagree with the child, but the child is its own person you know. And it’s never okay to use violence in my opinion.

Then she went on to marry bruce boxleitner who was like a lot older then her sort bared a resemblence to Dean. That not work out. He seems to be very respectful of her feelings and awkrardness now Melissa knows and looked rather gawky at that age 15 or 16 the braces, Dean a handsome dude to had to woo little Laura away and create married life passion on screen at least they can chuckle about it know as grown adults.
@kevinhanney19794 жыл бұрын
Am rose I remember in the show Laura went after Armando, right, at first Almanzo actually told Laura she was too young, I guess Laura got to , 16 or 17ish on the show and the script changed gaining a whole new future. If you watch the show where Melissa Gilbert and Dean Butler go back to the Little House set and go over old times, Melissa is very touch feely and kissed Dean. Was she married then? Dean, for me, is much more professional and mature as an adult. I think Melissa’s early fame was a lot to handle when the 9th season was over.

Yeh i think i remember in some interviews of books at the time when he was on the show, that he was originally audition for the role of Adam for Mary but they thought he was too tall for Mary. Then maybe shortly after he got cast as Almanzo he said he not 10 actually 10 years older then Laura, just hinted at a few years older then here, probably at the time it be uncorfortable for the audience to know that she was like 15 or 16 and he was 23 but ML had to make him likable easy on the eyes to look at so the tv audience would be cool with him stealing Little Laura away. But yeh they both revealing what it was like seem uncomfy with it but at least they became pals. It be cool if they did a moive together playing those roles of middle aged Laura and Almanzo and what life is like on Rocky Ridge or just set it back in Walnut Grove, without ML it not be the same. Its saddens me that ML show ended in 1983 he died 8 years later of cancer.
@jewel794 жыл бұрын
I wonder were this "fact" about Dean's audition for Adam originally comes from. And who actually said it. I also read about it on one fanpage of the series. But on a LHOTP reunion event just very recently Dean was asked about this and he said it's not true that he auditioned for Adam. (this fan video is on YT) He wasn't at that point in his career for that. He got his opportunities after his first leading role in the movie "Forever" which was on TV in 1978. Adam was cast earlier than that.

Good. Grown men should not date children. That was inappropriate then and now. Do do think women should date or have sex with boys?
@Michelle-pn9xt4 жыл бұрын
@rach d She was still a kid. If it was a boy and a woman, I do not think your opinion would be the same. I am sure that you will say that girls mature faster. That is not true. You said it was normal for that much of an age difference or more. Like what? 10 or 12. Just because something is acceptable does not mean that it should be considered okay. If you think a grown man being with someone younger than 16 is good, then that is sad. If a man is in his twenties and he tries to have any type of romantic relationship with a 14 year old or a 12 year old, he should go to jail. I don't care if society says it is acceptable. In my opinion, it would be abuse/rape.
@Michelle-pn9xt4 жыл бұрын
@rach d You also said that sometimes there was a bigger age difference. That would probably mean that the girl is younger than that. I do not think that was ever acceptable for most parents. If was alive back then, I would not have said it was okay for my child who was younger than that to be with a grown man.

Yeh the kiss with Chris apples in the dress lol. It may not have been special for her to remember it. It may have been mimed to look like she really kissed him or he her. Just put there heads together but not actually kiss cause at age 11 both might not have wanted to do that it be ick factor. Remember this is all being filmed on tv sure much pressure actors can mime a kiss without actually doing it. The kiss with dean had to be a sweet passionate peck kiss. With all those and micheal Landon watching omg no tongue.
