There are alot of comments about the potential that a sprinkler system is going to malfunction/misfire and soak all your stuff. The schools I went to all had sprinkler systems and they never went off accidentally. Most office spaces Ive worked in had sprinklers and they never went off accidentally. Im sure if you think about it you will be the same. Its about as likely to happen as the house fire itself. At least with water you can dry it out. You can't really unburn something

One thing I have noticed reading through the comments is a bunch of people talking about well this is just a small fire put that out with a fire extinguisher. This video was for demonstration purposes to demonstrate if a larger fire occurred that you could not contain and you have to be realistic depending upon the size of the fire do you really want to risk getting smoke inhalation and other things which could potentially cause a casualty in the fire. Yes if it's a small fire that's just in the wastebasket you can probably put that out with a fire extinguisher but this was a demonstration they don't have an entire house to light on fire showing a properly installed system
@fluz_5 жыл бұрын
I would also NOT recommend attempting to put out a small fire by your self. Most of the time this happens the occupants fail and therefor have delayed the call to the emergency services. Another consideration is the type of fire, many people do not know that different fire extinguishers serve different roles. For example if a lamp is on fire in your home then PLEASE do not attempt to put it out with a fire extinguisher as this is a class E fire, requiring a extinguisher designed for such fires. Same goes to cooking fires. 5 Year Firefighter, Aus

These systems are wonderful, and can even help prevent death in both home owners and firefighters. The fire department takes a lot longer than this time shown. There is notification, prep, travel, traffic, assessment, utility hookups, and more to do. It’s just not this simple. Expect to Loose a good portion of your home in the time it takes for the fire department to get there. If you have lost less, you are one of the lucky ones.

Not to mention: what if you weren't home and came back to everything burned down? The sprinklers could have prevented your entire house being destroyed. What if you had a pet at risk? If you think about it, in the scenario that you were home and could have called the fire department you'd still have water damage anyway and it would be worse than the sprinklers. But Water is the most effective firefighting tool. There are special techiques to fight fires with minimum water damage.
@Engineer97366 жыл бұрын
Do you really think that science is stuck at only water solutions? Think again. All the non-water options are just 20 times more expensive and have other downsides. Automatically extinguishing with gas (is an existing fire extinguishing method) works by pushing all the oxygen out of a room. Which means you have totally zero chance of survival. Fire needs fuel, heat and oxygen: The water fire fighting methods suppresses the heat aspect. The gas fire fighting method supresses the oxygen aspect. The fuel firefighting method is buying uninflamable furniture which won’t look too good. That’s all the science that there is about the subject. Up to you to choose something. Conclussion, back to firefighting with water (or foam) again.

@@Engineer9736 your home doesn't need to be fire proof, leather isn't fire proof but it doesn't catch as easily or burn as well as petroleum derived synthetics like polyester and nylon, a hardwood structure takes longer to collapse from fire than a softwood structure, both because the fire spreads slower and also because the hardwood stays structurally sound for longer even when the fire is at the same intensity.... Dimensional lumber is superior to engineered plywood I beams for the same reasons..... Oversized dimensional lumber is superior to "properly" sized dimensional lumber for the same reasons.... None of these materials are fire proof by any stretch of the imagination but they slow the spread of fire and are less prone to structural collapse. Oh and those materials aren't ugly by most people's opinions but they are expensive!

It would take about three minutes to get to my house from the fire department and that being said there are pro's and con's. The pro is that you are safe and the police station it about a five minute drive so we are safe all the time at our house. The con is that sometimes it is hard to fall asleep because both departments are so close!

How much the cost sprinkler system installation for house and where should put in the pump and fire water tank?
@jimmyallen55996 жыл бұрын
Liana Pabimbin we charge around 1.50 per square foot on new construction. If house is already built it be up to $5 per square foot. We tie into your domestic water. Can goggle home hydrant also.

I am a fire sprinkler fitter. These systems are designed to buy time to get the people out. If it fully extinguishes the fire that's a plus. Most home insurance providers will actually charge larger premiums due to the larger possibility of flood/water damage.

No I would not exit my house, I would grab one of 4 of my fire extinguishers 1st whilst calling emergency services
@tommo58845 жыл бұрын
Unlikely... More likely the heat and toxic smoke would have had you crawling out the door. Useful to note, a domestic fire extinguisher is only capable of managing small fires, think 1 square foot.
@niccatipay5 жыл бұрын
If you have 4 fire extinguishers around the house then that is plenty to clear out a small room. I have worked with fire extingishers before and even 1 ABC variant is a great choice. "It is an investment that you need, but would not want to use."
@tommo58845 жыл бұрын
@@niccatipay while I would agree that fire extinguishers are a great investment, they are very limited and are only safe and effective in the first few seconds to perhaps a minute of a fire starting (these are rarely noticed so quickly). All of the house fires that I have been to where the occupant did not exit the house/ went back into the house to fight the fire have been fatal house fires.
