They always do that in these kind of sketches. The baby delivery one on the Amy Schumer episode, the one on the Emma Thompson episode about two generations of motherhood, and the recent one on the Benedict Cumberbatch episode where a mom lectures her daughter on underage drinking, but we see flashbacks of the mom being a drunk party girl in the 1990s while her mom (Kate McKinnon) was a David Bowie fangirl in the 1970s.

The contrast between the family being phony at dinner and showing actual real family reality side by side, classic.
