after 20 years in the Army, this song says a lot to me and they did a fantastic cover.... as for coffee,,, good old Army brew strong enough to float a horseshoe with the horse still attached!!! note: Chance not only sings baritone(?), he also does the bass when Tim is singing higher!

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

I have been waiting for your reaction to this one. I always love your insights. I know you were very caught up in what they were doing but did you pay attention to the lyrics? It's such a poignant song. A dying soldier on the battlefield talking to his fellow soldiers. (hence Tim's breathy vocals). It was written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits the last stanza always starts me crying: Now the sun's gone to hell and The moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line in your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms

As a musician andusic educator I often see reaction videos where the reactors struggle to explain musical concepts in a way that is understandable. You, my good sir, do not suffer from that particular issue. I absolutely LOVE the easy way you make it relatable and FUN to those not steeped in music theory. One of the many reasons you are one of my favorite reactors. Thank you for sharing your talent and teaching, and keep up the great work and content!

I absolutely adore watching your face as you react! It was easy to see that you appreciate Home Free and their techniques. I also love the way you break it down into layman's terms, it always makes total sense. Home Free has earned my highest level of respect. The way that they unapologetically approach their patriotism and the sensitive social issues that others avoid like the plague, make them top dog as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to see you react to Everybody Walkin This Land for another strong message. And Do You Hear What I Hear for it's insane level of intensity. It was arranged by Adam and it's brilliant. Evidently he doesn't get to arrange too often because he is so intricate that the guys have a hard time doing his arrangements. But my goodness, they nailed this one. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving! ❤

Just a minor correction, Chance is a baritone, not a tenor. And thanks for that, because he has one of the smoothest baritone, I have ever heard, georgeous. I think that, the only percussion by Adam here, is the sound of the wind.

Loved your breakdown! My guitar teacher wanted me to listen hard to the old Black Mississippi Delta blues players. His complaint was that more recent players felt compelled to fill up the space with notes. He told me that the space between the notes is even more important to the songs expression. A vocal analogy would be Diana Krall, one of my favorite singers. She doesn't have a super wide range, but she excels at phrasing a song. Not to mention that she plays a great jazz piano and isn't hard on the eyes at all! Check out her cover of Popsicle Toes or When I Look In Your Eyes. My guitar teacher called that the greatest love song ever written. Popsicle Toes has a quote from Fever at the very end too. Cool!

If ever you want to experience some crazy acoustics, the reverb reminded me of this. When I did Honor Guard doing funeral details, when you hear TAPS, the reverb happens a lot at some cemeteries with the right architecture on the site. The best way to describe that it’s almost like you can literally see the sound rolling over the ground. It is crazy feeling and thing to witness.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned, but this Home Free cover is actually a cover of the version originally done by Club for Five, a Finnish ensemble featuring yet another "super-bass," Tuuka Haapaniemi, who many consider to be one of the finest bass singers in the world. They performed the same basic arrangement (except they have two women in the group, and there was less of the humming and harmonizing in the interludes, and frankly, their performance did not have the polish that Home Free does in terms of production and engineering) - but still, their video is definitely worth a look! Another difference is that the Club for Five version features only one soloist, so Tuuka took both the bass and baritone soli on his own - and did them justice.

Coffee- when I could drink it without agony- I preferred my own lates at home. I literally wore out four or five home esspresso machines. Then I moved to French Press, because the essential oils of coffee, are relased only with boiling water. The Silence- in all art forms, music, painting, literature, the audience/reader cannot digest the noise, without a balance of silence. In art, that would be the absence of movement- small sections of canvas with nothing discernable; in literature is is the quiet moments at sunset, or stargazing. I leave you with the following taken from an episode of Babylon 5. The writing in that tv show was some of the best I've seen. Paraphrased for this presentation It was the end of the year, and the war had paused, suddenly and unexpectedly. All around us, it was as if the universe were holding its breath . . . waiting. All of life can be broken down into moments of transition or moments of revelation. This had the feeling of both. The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain. Humans, by our very nature, are a dichotomy, binary. We need both noise and silence; pain and joy; laughter and sorrow or we aren't whole. We can't appreciate the highs, if we don't have lows.
@patriciamcl54
@patriciamcl54 2 жыл бұрын
Was this arranged by their usual producer Darren Rust? If so, the man is an even greater genius than I thought. That 'church organ' explosion of harmonies in the middle of the piece is painfully emotional and ecstatic at the same time, as if the panorama of the piece has widened out to the stars, only to return to the quiet support for the dying soldier's words. Great leads from Tim and Adam Chance, and although Adam Rupp's beatboxing is extraordinary and a vital component, when he joins in a 5 part harmony, we hear HF at their best. Your reaction spot on as always, really informative and engaging.
