This is really the first opportunity Lee Greenwood has had to let loose in his song. He’s sung it the same way for over 35 years and here he got the chance to just listen to the other voices and figure out what he could do. In the behind the scenes video he talked about having freedom in his own song (their video on the making of this song is really interesting). Darren Rust encouraged Lee to try things he’d never done before and this was the stirring result. Oh, and that first run was Austin...it’s the same run he does in Home Free’s older recording of the song. And the USAF Singing Sergeants really lent beautiful voices and such fullness to the sound, especially at the end. Great reaction. Thanks

As someone else mentioned earlier, Lee Greenwood said he had never had so much personal freedom on interpreting his own song! If you haven't done so already, check out the "Making Of" video on KZbin - it's excellent!

Lee Greenwood said that this was the first time that he'd had that much artistic freedom with his own song. I guess the recording company that he'd worked with before, sort of dictated what he could and couldn't do. It helped that Darrin Rust, and the Home Free crew, helped him learn how to really stretch himself. They all did a phenomenal job. And having the USAF Singing Sergeants was the perfect cherry on top. BTW- Adam did an outstanding job with the beat boxing, but did you hear how he added the kettle drum sounds towards the end, and ended it with the sounds of the military jets flying over head? EPIC!!! Thank you, Brad, and Happy 4th. to you and yours.

I saw Lee Greenwood live a couple years ago. He still has his voice and it's as great as it ever was. This video will bring a whole new audience and appreciation for one of the most favorite, patriotic songs ever written. The addition of Home Free and the Air Force Singing Sergeants was brilliant and the video is a masterpiece.

Such an incredible performance of an emotional song - even for someone who isn't American, there's a lot of power there, and I pray it does bring a blessing. Adam Rupp's drumming is so incredible on this one - that military snare drum sound is just so real. And so many beautiful voices, Darren Rust's incredible production and adaptation of Home Free's original arrangement, it just all comes together to make something truly special.

We need a blessing right now? Yes we do. I don't want to get too preachy on your channel but I believe what we really, really need right now is a spiritual awakening! (which, of course, would be the BEST blessing!)
@elizabethhostetter19464 жыл бұрын
whilst i agree with you in a way, i must ask (as a non-judeochristian) - which one? or just an awakening of human spirit overall?
@JustPlanoRick4 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethhostetter1946 the kind of spiritual awakening I'm referring to is the kind where we all love each other with the same kind of love we have been shown by God in the person of Jesus Christ.
@elizabethhostetter19464 жыл бұрын
@@JustPlanoRick Ah. So you are being very narrow in your acceptance of 'spiritual'. i must (respectfully) disagree, as i am not, and never has been, a believer in any of the faiths 'of the book' (judeochristianity and islam) - what is needed is an awakening to the reality of all living beings as family and worthy of consideration and love. A bit more Western in thought would be narrowing that down to an awakening to the reality of all people as equally human and worthy of consideration and love. i would (again, respectfully) ask that you take into account that there are what you would call saintly people in *all* walks of life and beliefs, and that folks who do not believe exactly as you do may still be good people worthy of acceptance. Namaste and peace to you!
@JustPlanoRick4 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethhostetter1946 thanks for sharing your view of spirituality. I respectfully suggest that you are being a bit presumptuous in your interpretation of my comment and extrapolating from that how "narrow" I am regarding what I "accept" as spiritual. You don't know me and a reasonable understanding of my deeply held beliefs (or yours for that matter) would require far more than an exchange of a few sentences on a KZbin comment thread. My Christian beliefs very deeply affirm that ALL humans are worthy of consideration and love (and much more). I wholeheartedly believe all people are worthy of acceptance because of my relationship with God - the former is in NO way precluded by the latter - far from it; the former is required by the latter. By the way, I understand fully that there are many good (or even "saintly") people who do not share my beliefs - I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I do not understand this. You asked a pretty simple question regarding what I meant by "spiritual awakening" and I provided a simple answer to that question; I wasn't attempting to offer a universal definition, just mine - but it's difficult to imagine how you find fault with any definition that involves loving one another or how such an awakening would be anything other than wonderful. I would (again, respectfully) ask that you take into account that I might not be the narrow-minded person you seem to have assumed me to be. Having said all this, I have found theological discussions on social media are seldom edifying to either party so I'll close as you did by wishing you peace.

Try to watch their behind the scenes video showing how they made this video across the country and it's fun and funny as always with HF too. Darren Rust the producer and arranger extraordinaire, arranged this, coached Lee Greenwood on his new parts in the other video. You'll enjoy it. It's an awesome song written by Lee during the Vietnam war when this country was falling to pieces. Those of us who lived through that time know things can get better, but it takes each person to work towards that! Thanks as always, be safe and well.

I learned in another comment section that this version gave Lee Greenwood a chance to do things during this recording that his label wouldn’t let him do before; the young lady who sang “from the hills of Tennessee is actually from Tennessee; “across the plains of Texas” by born and bred Texan, Tim Foust; “from the lakes of Minnesota” by Rob who has lived in Minnesota all of his life; “from sea to shining sea” by Chance who was born in Florida, grew up in Alabama, and now lives in LA!
