When Home Free won the Sing Off one of the prizes was a record contract - which they later bought out and started their own. Chris Rupp (;who started the band with his beatbox brother Adam) said they knew from the outset that the record company wouldn't know what to do with them and wouldn't promote their music. There are interviews with Chris Rupp on the net that are really interesting.

As mentioned below, they did "Survivor" with VoicePlay. Tim also shows up in VP's massive collaboration "Just Sing" and there's a mini bass battle there (all done for funsies -- Tim & Geoff are friends). If you do watch Just Sing, be sure to turn on their captions as they identify all the singers and make some comments. And on Tim's channel you'll find "Falling Over You" with folks from a bunch of different groups, including Earl from VP (though I think he'd already left at that point). Oh, and Rob shows up in VP's movie theme songs video.

Iffy. Possibly Tim taught Avi the growl technique but Avi is a true bass who is formally trained in opera singing. Regardless they are friends and both live in Nashville now.

Avi was great. That was Tim who hit the G#1 at the end. Goodness. My favorite is probably Helplessly Hoping. I probably like them singing with Kenny Rogers in Children Go Where I Send Thee. Hard to decide though as there are so many good songs and good artists they’ve sung with. Good reaction.

A good way to describe PTX is "structured" whereas Home Free tends to be more relaxed. Actually Tim, Avi, and Geoff are all friends. Tim helped them expand their ranges from what I've heard. The ultimate collaboration is those 3. Similar ranges but incredibly different tones! I think they'd set KZbin on fire and go viral! Great reaction! A few favorites would be Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys, Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers, Wake Me Up, Blue Ain't Your Color and Helplessly Hoping!

Thanks for reacting to this song. Avi is a great singer and being on his own doing the work he likes. He is really good. If you have a chance go to...Sing off season 4 song 3 with judges comments...,to see how Home Free did...Ring of Fire...amazing!...another song would be...Champagne Taste on A Beer Budget...Tim wrote it and it is fun also...they have a visitor...Good Ol' Boy Good Time...fun and funny. Actually Avi was just about to leave...This was just after Home Free had won season 4 of the Sing-Off...PTX won Season 3. Tim hit's a G1 there at the end.

No. Avi did not leave until September of 2017 this is much earlier. Yes Tim hit the G1 at the end. For Avi performing a G1 you need to go to another recording of his.

Tim and Avi have the same 5 octave range but Avi just has a deeper, richer resonance. I prefer Avi and actually no longer listen to PTX unless it is a video from the time Avi was with them.

Avi is great but his voice did not fit with the group they have a more country sound he and he does not.

Really? Perhaps you have made that mistake because he sang with Pentatonix? He isn't a city kid you know but comes from the country in the central valley of California near the Sequoias and Kings Canyon National Parks that just made him an ambassador for the parks. Try his "Born in California" or "Aberdeen" the video that was filmed near where his parents live. More of a John Denver country feel perhaps than deep south if that is what you meant but I think you have made an error about his voice not fitting country.

@@areese240z sorry that is not a valid criticism of his singing with Homefree. Avi did adjust his pronunciation and presentation specifically for that purpose to "sing country style" for the song from how he ordinarily sang pop music. Listen to him for example in "Standing By" Pentatonix. Avi's presentation is completely different from what he used in Ring of Fire. He did formally train as a dramatic opera singer and his presentation varies with the character he is portraying and the song. It is theater like any other acting job. Singers do the same thing as actors. They are not limited to only one way of singing and change up the style and presentation to fit the genre they are in if they are good and he is. When he sings bluegrass style in his cover of Hey Ya! his voice changes again as it does when he sings jazz. As I have stated his genre is now close to Homefree's and he is quite capable of carrying off that sound in his solo career. The closest he comes to traditional "country" presentation is in the John Denver feeling song of his "Born in California". What I believe you meant is you prefer Tim's timbre of voice to Avi's and don't like Tim sharing the song with another bass in a Homefree song. That is a matter of personal preference and okay. It is not okay to say Avi doesn't have the technique to sing country because he does.

I have listened to Pentatonix and I am a fan so stop writing novels. All critiques are valid because they are just someone's opinion so get over yourself Karen.

@@areese240z okay. Avi and Homefree were quite good friends. Homefree won the Sing-Off 2 years after Pentatonix after Pentatonix worked with others to bring it back. The biggest song of Homefree from the Sing-Off was Ring of Fire. Tim Foust arranged it for 2 basses for their first big record after the Sing-Off to use that nationwide publicity they had and build off Avi's popularity to sell them and it worked as you can see if you watch Chris Rupp's Behind the Scenes kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHfHn62toMh3lcU It remains their highest selling one to date. You however would not have done that because "Avi does not have a "country voice" despite having NOW been informed that he grew up in the rural interior of California riding horses and hiking in the Sequoias and that the genres he writes and sings in now in his solo career are "country". So according to you he is destined to fail genetically not having a "country voice". There is NO SUCH thing as what you are stating. "country voice" is NOT a valid complaint however this irrational attitude about Avi not being capable of singing country could be because of another pre-judgement because the man is Jewish and cannot therefore ever fit in. Is that your real point?
